As reported by Breitbart Texas, the dispute stems from an anti-discrimination ordinance passed by Houston regarding discrimination based on gender and sexual orientation. The pastors' churches were part of a coalition of hundreds of churches in the Houston area that opposed the ordinance. After a referendum petition seeking to get a repeal measure on the November ballot was tossed out over allegations that the petition signature gatherers were not qualified under Texas law, a lawsuit was filed, but the pastors were not a part of the litigation. The pastors have obtained legal representation and filed a motion to quash the subpoenas, arguing that they were an illegal demand of their "their constitutionally protected sermons and other communications."
Cruz agreed with the pastors and their attorneys, releasing a statement Wednesday that echoed the religious liberty and free speech arguments they made. "I'm proud to stand with the pastors," said Cruz. "Religious liberty is the very first protection in the Bill of Rights, the foundation of all our liberties. The City of Houstons subpoenas demanding that pastors provide the government with copies of their sermons is both shocking and shameful. For far too long, the federal government has led an assault against religious liberty, and now, sadly, my hometown of Houston is joining the fight. This is wrong. God Bless Ted Cruz for standing up for the 1rst Amendment, oh, and God, but of course, he is a REAL statesman. Have the churches received any kind of moral support from Perry?
Exactly right. Margaret Thatcher called it the “ratchet effect”-whenever the left is in power, they steer the ship of state sharply to the left. When the right regains power, they never manage to correct course to the right. Of course these days, the bunch currently in DC which calls itself the “right” doesn’t even try to correct course. I don’t believe very many of them even want to these days. I honestly believe that the R party has been infiltrated by “sleepers” from the left, to the point that if the GOP’s goals aren’t actually the same as there left’s, at the very least they’re not interested in fighting them and their agenda. But their agenda seems to be increasingly converging with that of the left anyway.
When I read about some college campus in California saying that female students can require a signed form before agreeing to have sex, I immediately wondered how that would play into things with the sodomites, considering that statistics show them to be far more promiscuous as a group than other groups-multiple partners, sometimes all at the same time (try to dismiss that picture from your mind).
bump!!
playing the victim requiring the paper work permission was the perception game by the sodomite all along I guess.
