I went to elementary school in the 1970s and I can still remember the menu. It hardly varied.

Monday - Sliced turkey in gravy with mashed potato
Tuesday - Fish sticks and fries
Wednesday - Shells and tomato sauce w/grated cheese
Thursday - Hamburger and fries
Friday - Pizza (in squares)

Milk (Plain or chocolate) every day

Also, during recess, the teachers would sell snacks in the classroom for 15 cents. A Twinkie, Reeses Peanut Cups, Cheez-its or those three chocolate chip cookies wrapped in cellophane

In elementary school in the ‘50s, I brought my lunch to school in Lone Ranger lunch pail containing either a bologna sandwich with Miracle Whip on white bread or a peanut butter sandwich with potato chips. During recess we could buy regular (full fat) milk or chocolate milk for 5 cents. Then topped it off with a Two-Bagger chocolate covered ice cream bar also just 5 cents.
