In an all-out push to gain a governing majority, Republicans are trying to field Congressional candidates who actually want to govern.
Back on May 20, the National Republican Congressional Committee the House Republicans campaign arm announced it was launching a Drive to 245, a Babe Ruthian exercise in shot calling that implied the party would net an additional 11 seats in the November midterms.
Twenty-five days out from the elections, that remains an uncertain proposition. Republicans are sure to pad their majority, though gains in the single digits look more likely. As Greg Walden, the Oregon Republican who runs the NRCC, tells Fortune, It is attainable, but its a pretty high goal.
But the Republican boast was never really meant to nail the balloting results. Instead, it was a clever blend of hype and hope served up to major donors about what could follow the election: For GOP benefactors in New York, Washington and beyond whore past tired of self-destructive antics by Republicans reactionaries, the party tailored the push to conjure the dream of a reinvigorated Speaker John Boehner. Given the room, he could stiff-arm the tiny, troublesome right flank that nearly pitched the country into a debt default three years ago and generally made major headaches out of otherwise simple chores. One Republican operative spells out the subtext of the pitch to the corporate pragmatists the GOP is hitting up for campaign cash: We want to give Boehner a governable majority so the crazies you hate will be irrelevant.

See how this works?? Boehner wants a larger majority, not to enact conservative legislation, but to thwart conservatives who want to enact conservative legislation...because they're nuts, crazies.
We're in the midst of a great power struggle, and "our leaders" are on the other side.
The sooner we figure that out and vote accordingly, the better.
My Republican congressman votes with Boehner sometimes and other times he doesn’t. He usually ends up in a group of 60 or so that look very conservative in their voting records.
But Congressman Scott Perry had Speaker John Boehner in the district speaking at a fundraiser.....Perry makes noises about how bad Obama is, Pelosi is etc. but the proof of his loyalty is obvious.
Fewer than a dozen had the courage to stand up against Boehner’s leadership, that should say it all.
A new party looks like the solution ala UKIP in the UK.
I’m writing in a conservative for Congress on November 4th, not voting for Boehner’s boy Scott Perry or the Dem.
This business about the Chamber of commerce boys and the other country club types helping the Dems create socialism by advocating comprehensive border breakdown and amnesty âreformâ. Has sure changed my mind about business. I feel like the faithful wife who stood by her man and found out that he was cheating like hell all the time and the marriage is now suddenly over. The liberal gentrys basically run the country and one reason is because of the fecklessness, duplicity and treachery of the wealthy Republican establishment. If this is the way they are going to be they can just pay their taxes. As long as the borders are insecure and the media(the voice of the upper class) is controlled by the enemy, then they should pay their taxes. It is not enough to be conservative only when it comes to tax bills on the wealthy. If this is the only place where they are conservative we should support raising taxes on them and continue to raise taxes as long as they continue the status quo. Not because they are rich but, because what is happening in this country is their fault and they should pay for it.
People who want to govern are driven by the desire to increase the size and scope of that which they would govern so as to increase their own power.
Conservatives are driven by a desire for freedom and individual sovereignty, which can only be achieved by a diminishing the power and scope of those who would govern.
The Republican agenda is the exact opposite of the Conservative agenda.
Every potential statist legislative item or policy that the RINOcheerleaders use to order to fearmonger Conservatives into lending more votes for the RINO candidate is something that they will pass or surrender to anyway once elected.
The dem/pub divide is kabuki theater. They both share an agenda which is the perpetual growth of the governent/crony business monster. It's not quite communist and it's not quite fascist and it's not quite feudalist, but whatever the word is for this beast, it reeks with the scent of all three.
The Chamber of Amnesty Party is upset a few of their own want to reign in the government leviathan.
Those few must be destroyed. The corporate lobbyists demand it.
Screw the middle class that’s getting it from all sides.
This son of a b**** should be calling the House into emergency session to deal with the death plague Ebola the other son of a b**** in the Oval Office is unleashing on America along with the illegal alien driven Enterovirus.
Instead he’s trashing other Republicans. Losing his seat to flush him out of office would be well worth the loss.
EVEN McConnell isn’t as loathsome.
I hope to God Boehner and Cochran loose to Democrats!!
the tiny, troublesome right flank that nearly pitched the country into a debt default three years ago and generally made major headaches out of otherwise simple chores.
Ya hear that Tea Party, it’s all your fault.
Just think how much power we could have if we
had real representation...
Just like you can't refer to "republicans" and get an honest demographic, (meaning RINOs) you can't say "business" and get a common set of principles. The RINOs and the Chamber are your core proponents of corporate welfare and crony capitalism, they are also in bed with the RATs.
I'm sure you can find a similar but opposite relationship between the TEApublicans and the NFIB. Small business is the backbone of the economy, and the majority of activity in the private sector.
The NFIB rates legislators.
Let’s see now...
You said an un-named “Republican spokesman” says it is easier to govern if you can assemble a majority in the House without having to coax “crazies” to join you.
And then, YOU self-identify with the “crazies”!
Why?
Are you in favor of “open borders” like the crazy Democrats?
Are you in favor of unilateral disarmament like the crazy Democrats?
Are you in favor of “gun control” like the crazy Democrats?
Are you in favor of Federal “override” of every power and right enumerated in our Constitution like the crazy Democrats?
Conservatives are not “crazy”!
We CAN educate more low-information voters by loudly opposing ALL of the Democrat’s goose-stepping craziness.
But success in governing America requires us Conservatives to put the crazy Democrats in the MINORITY in the House and Senate and in two years to replace them in the White House.
That WAS your point, wasn’t it?
“Boehner to Business: Help Me Stiff-Arm the Nuts”
If only he meant the fruits, nuts, and flakes of the Left!
I’m assuming your comments were directed at the author of the piece, not at me, correct?
We need to come out and vote or the democrats will enact their agenda. We have to settle for little or no conservative legislation because their aren’t enough votes for it yet but don’t worry the leadership’s cave & surrender strategy is really part of a secret master plan. You people who won’t come out and vote for the liberal republican candidates who won’t fight the Obama agenda and call conservatives “crazies” are the problem as to why the democrats keep winning. We need to come out & vote and trust Boehner,McCain,Graham, and Rove to pick our candidates, make our policies, and help get things done in Washington.
Conservatives need to shut up,come out & vote, send in big donations and obey the leadership. It’s all about ensuring that the republican leadership is a relevant part of the processes of getting things done in Washington. All those crazy ideas would do is derail the whole agenda. So to you people who plan to sit @ home next month you are the sole problem.
I would like to send $ 100_ $250_ $ 500_ $ 1000_ An Extra Generous Gift of_ to support MY republican leadership this election cycle!
It would be nice if we had an opposition party to the Demopublicans.
As far as I can tell, Boehner never said the words in quotes attributed to him in the title of the article. The writer is putting words in his mouth that he never said. Near as I can tell, those words were said by an unnamed "republican operative" that the writer attributed to Boehner. Since the source is unnamed, no one can confirm anyone said anything. The writer could have made the whole thing up.
Why would the writer do that, you say? To piss you off, of course. He wants you mad at Boehner so you'll stay home or vote 3rd party. That's the 'Rats only hope on Nov. 4.
This stinks of Democrat dirty tricks to me.
Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of Boehner, but look at the content of the article, the intent of the author, and the calendar, and make your own assumptions.
The political elites take money from the business elites and demonize the opposing party as extreme on issues, then do the same thing when they are elected like the GOP on amnesty.
THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS ARE PRETEND ONES DRIVEN BY EMOTIONAL ARGUMENT AND MEDIA......
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m no fan of Boehner, but look at the content of the article, the intent of the author, and the calendar, and make your own assumptions.”
You may be totally correct. But this kind of “trick” wouldn’t work, you see, if Boehner didn’t already have a history of duplicity, and we can all easily find Boehner’s own words, on video, where he bad-mouths conservatives.
More lies
Yes.
I’m sure you are not trying to persuade Conservatives that a vote that helps Obama’s minions in 2014 is “rational”.
I think Conservatives have a lot of work to do — and money to raise — to be sure the election of ‘16 does not match Her Thighness against a RINO.
I guess we start by identifying (and maybe “shaming”) the GOP’s “leadership” in DC. It’s time for a change there.
We are the people they are supposed to serve and they (Boehner and 95 percent of the GOP elected officials) are not serving our best interests.
Both parties are dragging us down with the kind of deal making that comes from “leadership” like Boehner and Paul Ryan who budget deal with Democrat Patty Murray is now in place.
The GOP (Boehner, McConnell etc.) leadership keeps on spending money, raising taxes and increasing the national debt....
Ok. Good. My intent was to shine a light on the duplicity of the republican leadership, not suggest that I support them in it.
