I went to college with her father, Bruce Paltrow, and he was a pretty solid guy. Unfortunately, he died too young to have had much influence over her character, I think.
He died about a dozen years ago, and she just turned 42. I'm pretty sure that her "character" was pretty much set by age 30.
Unless she has an epiphany of some sort, she'll be stuck with the clueless, new age label for a long time.
Reminds me of the scene in "My Step-Mother is an Alien". Basinger's "reading" books, stops on Shirley MacLaine's bio, and starts laughing uncontrollably.
