Marburg is so named because it first appeared in the East German city of Marburg in the late 60s, (I think). Its suspected that the Soviets imported the virus from Africa and were trying to create a bio-weapon when it infected Dr. Ustinov in the city of Marburg. Hence, the name. Marburg is West Germany, perhaps you were thinking of Magdeburg. So that little cold war anecdote falls flat. Why not just look up the real story on Wikipedia?

Hmmm, I guess you’re right - but I do remember reading something that said they were trying to smuggle it to East Germany and then Russia. I can’t remember...
