I was reading an article the other day, okay, I’m no doctor but it’s either marburg is in the same family as ebola or both of them are often called marburg hemorrhagic and ebola hemorrhagic.

Yes, Marburg and Ebola are both Filoviruses. They both cause hemmorhagic fever.

Marburg is so named because it first appeared in the East German city of Marburg in the late 60’s, (I think). It’s suspected that the Soviets imported the virus from Africa and were trying to create a bio-weapon when it infected Dr. Ustinov in the city of Marburg. Hence, the name.

Ebola and Marburg are separate viruses although both are in the Filoviridae family of viruses. Symptoms are similar.

By the way, go to the “The Diseases” tab on the link above & it lists all the hemorrhagic fevers (w/links to info) & a lot of other bad stuff as well:

The Hemorrhagic Fevers
Hantaviruses
Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever
Rift Valley Fever
Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever
Marburg Hemorrhagic Fever
Lassa Hemorrhagic Fever
American Hemorrhagic Fevers
