When the Syrian Army loyal to Assad, and the Shabiha militia, are the main opposition forces on the ground to the ISIS in Syria, what sense does this make?

Once again. Obama is using this as an excuse to complete his failed policy of taking out Assad and replace the governments of the ME with Muslim Brotherhood and or their affiliates. If the Assad regime can withstand 3 years of fighting and still have enough support to defeat ISIS then I say let him. He is no good guy but he is a better guy than ISIS and other faiths have been able to live in “relative” security under his regime.

It makes very little sense to me, for several reasons:

-Assad is an SOB like his father, no question. He also has aided and abetted terrorism, no question. But he’s also the head of a sovereign state that has been mostly stable for most of its modern era. Syria isn’t suddenly going to bloom into a western style democracy if Assad is overthrown. We tried that in Libya, and look what happened there. Instead of ending the conflict, the fighting will very likely become bloodier and more widespread, with anarchy and power struggles everywhere.

-There is also the issue of Syrian Christians, as another poster has pointed out. As terrible as he is on many fronts, Assad has indeed protected the life and limb of many Syrian Christians, something I doubt will continue if he is removed.

-Taking out Assad isn’t going to be as easy as these guys seem to think. Syria has an army on par with Saddam Hussein’s on the eve of Desert Storm, only with more modern equipment. Assuming his forces remain loyal, it’s going to take a lot of time, money, and manpower to grind his forces down. Where are we going to get any of that?

-Moscow ain’t gonna like this. McCain and Graham seem to forget that Moscow and Damascus have close ties going back to the 1960s (if not earlier). I somehow doubt Putin is going to stand by idly if the U.S. declares formal war on the guy in charge of their closest ally in the region.

It’s the John and Linda show. Why should it make sense?

Idiots McCain and Graham. The minute Assad falls, the chaos will exponentially multiply in the middle east. If you want to be assured of WW3, then get rid of Assad...

Dear Juan, go pose with more terrorists.....and thanks again SC for your continued lunacy.

Syrians are already asking why we’re bombing ISIS but not stopping Assad’s attacks on them. Good question.

It is? Really? That's a "good" question? John McCain and his mini-me have gone full retard.

Ha. Sounds like the “moderate rebels” are threatening to reveal the details about the “Sarin gas” attack again. Every month or so on Arab TV they start threatening “western leaders” by promising to spill the beans about that little “red line” operation from last year. McCain and Graham start squealing like little piggies for increased support every single time. You watch, there will be news of a weapons delivery to the moderates/isis guys in a few days. They must be running low on ammo again.
