Japanese police questioned a university student and several others Monday over suspected plans to travel to Syria to join the Islamic State group, news reports said. [ ]
Public broadcaster NHK and Kyodo News service said investigators questioned a 26-year-old male Hokkaido University student and several men who shared a house with him on suspicion they were preparing to go to Syria to fight.
Investigators believe that the student, who is on a leave of absence from school, responded to a poster at a used-book store in downtown Tokyo offering positions for work in Syria, Kyodo said.

Not surprised by this. Japanese society is adrift and doesn’t give people anything to believe in. Everybody worships something and people want to be part of a grand cause. Too bad they are choosing evil.
Islam always has the appeal of the urban street gang: the male bonding which is of course absent from fatherless families, and the prospect of violence.
"The Ainu are in general somewhat taller than the Japanese, stoutly built, well proportioned, with dark-brown eyes, high cheek-bones, short broad noses and faces lacking length. The hairiness of the Ainu has been much exaggerated. They are not more hairy than many Europeans although much hairier than Japanese."
In my opinion, there people were the ancient, fierce Samurai.
"Brace has studied the skeletons of about 1,100 Japanese, Ainu, and other Asian ethnic groups and has concluded that the revered samurai of Japan are actually descendants of the Ainu, not of the Yayoi from whom most modern Japanese are descended. In fact, Brace threw more fuel on the fire with: "

I personally think that each and every time a person becomes radicalized and sides with our (the West) enemies there should be a wide investigation of those individuals they associated with that may have influenced them. If they were influenced by a domestic source, this is a form of subversion, and deserves deep vigilance and investigation.
*chuckling* a possible future Sword Ping.
Interesting. Are you saying they are like the Irishman who came across a street brawl and asked, “Pardon me, is this a private fight, or can anybody join?” ;-)
ISIS has a sophisticated internet ground game that taps into youth desire to rebel and to stick it the supposedly evil west, that the left has already demonized as being the root of all evil.
Not surprised that even Japanese could be swung by their propaganda. Some of these young guys likely sees this as a chance to help the ultimate “outcast” against the system.
Did he convert to Isram?
I see what you did there.
Are they trying for another Hiroshima?
The Japanese Red Army was sub contracted by the PLFP to carry out the Lod airport massacre in 1972. It caught the Israelis flat footed. 26 dead 80 wounded.

Nutjobs aren’t confined to the United States alone.
I think it’s entirely possible that there was much more “global” trade going on thousands of years before our known written history began... Or rather before those earlier records were lost to time.
That said, I don’t hold the Samurai in the same mystical esteem that most historians seem to. Of course they were skilled and highly trained warriors. Every culture has had those. But the Samurai were mainly used as local muscle to keep peasants in line. They were hired guns used to frighten the locals into obedience to the local warlord. Most Samurai rarely actually fought anyone, let alone another Samurai. There were a few great battles but not many.
