Any bets on Vail Resorts trying to scoop it up for Denver?

Colorado has stunning mountain scenery. But its expensive to build facilities in the ski resort towns for what is basically a two week shindig for wealthy professional athletes.

It could be done... if the taxpayers in my state would be prepared to pick up the tab.

I don’t think the Winter Olympics, as its now structured, is financially sustainable.

They would certainly be capable of doing so if they wanted it. But they'd have to balance the fame and fortune of a three week party against the loss of revenue from those at the top of the economic heap.

It is the same reason you won't see a Zurich or Davos bid on a Winter Olympics. From what I understand from ski nuts, the Salt Lake City area is every bit as good as the Denver area in terms of snow quality and ski facility quality. The main difference is that Park City appeals more to a middle/upper middle class clientele whereas Vail appeals to the filthy rich.
