Members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee said Wednesday that they believe Mexico will soon release Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, the U.S. Marine who has been held prisoner in Mexico after he crossed into that country carrying weapons in violation of Mexican law.
Chairman Ed Royce (R-Calif.) said he met with Tahmooressi in prison back in June, and has continued to press Mexican authorities for his release. Royce said he made a breakthrough in a talk last week with Mexican authorities about Tahmooressi, who has been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Last week I had a good and productive conversation with the Mexican Attorney General and am confident that a humanitarian release of Andrew will occur very soon so he can start getting better, Royce said at the start of a House hearing on the matter Wednesday.
At the hearing, Rep. Matt Salmon (R-Ariz.) added that Mexicos Attorney General has told lawmakers that Tahmooressi can be released once Mexico receives proof of Tahmooressis medical condition. Salmon said lawmakers just sent medical information about Tahmooressi to Mexico, which is why they hope he may soon be able to return home.
He has the authority within Mexican law to dismiss Sgt. Tahmooressis case on humanitarian grounds once he has expert testimony that verifies his combat-specific PTSD diagnosis, Salmon said. Chairman Royce and I obtained the appropriate expert medical reports, and forwarded them to the Mexican Attorney Generals desk this past Friday.
Tahmooressis case has frustrated many U.S. lawmakers, in large part because of Tahmooressis medical condition, which is difficult to properly treat in Mexico. The Marine has been held in prison since March.
His detention has also led to some frustrations with the Obama administration, which many say has not done enough to press Mexico on Tahmooressis release.

Bet we could get a couple hundred Patriot Guard Riders to even escort the Sargent home.
It shouldn’t be a “humanitarian” release. That’s CYA.
He did everything right, declaring he didn’t want to enter Mexico, and that he just wanted to turn around. Everything was fine until some prick Mexican army colonel decided to go all maximum on him. The tragedy is that once a legal system goes after someone, there’s no governor to damp down the action.
In Mexico, maybe the governor is via the “mordida” (bribe), but this poor guy had no knowledge of it, or how or who to approach for an offer. So the jaws of what they call justice clamped down on him and kept chewing.
For an American citizen who has no Mexican connections, the governor on the system can’t be done by bribe—you don’t know what’s an appropriate amount, or who to offer it to without making things worse. The governor on the system is the US government—the embassy, or even if necessary, a phone call from the President. The forms can be observed, the judge can rule, but justice is supposed to be served.
Our President, however, despises our military (despite his speeches in recent years saying otherwise) even as he finds them useful. He wouldn’t lift a friggin’ finger. FOX gets a lot of credit (Greta Van Sustern in particular) for keeping this alive.
Ya, as soon as they get the payoff.
That would be awesome ..... especially because you know he and his mom are not going to get an invite to the WH (ala the Bergdahl parents).
They were willing to stiff-arm Obama for six months, but Montel Williams got their attention.
Its been said many times before but it bears repeating- we really need to pray for this young man- he has been through so much.
The Mexican government will probably give him a case of Ebola before letting him return.
What concerns me more is what Obama did with Bowe Bergdahl, the deserter.
He exchanges him for 5 terrorists but would not even call the President of Mexico on behalf of Sgt. Tahmoressi [Yet has plenty of time for golf ].
Tells me where his heart is right there...

Amen to that. Thanks for the reminder, Faith65.
Unfortunately for Marine Sgt. Tahmooressi he is a Patriotic American loving Marine.
Bowe Bergdahl, not so much. Probably misses his friends.
I believe that this falls into the same category as Carter vs. Reagan...If obunghole wanted him released, he would have been home minutes after being unlawfully detained.
Too bad he’s not a muslim deserter/collaborator or he would have been home months ago to get his Rose Garden ceremony.
