The guy was a bonifide jihadi. He had been in contact with other jihadis for years. His own dad turned him in. He really did want to kill and maim. He really did think he was killing & maiming.
Undercover FBI showed him what the bomb would do and people would be killed & maimed and gave him several outs. The jihadi still wanted to kill & maim.
