Just heard on the radio (WBAP) that a family member of the man with Ebola is now sick with the stuff.
A little heads up that your link is a download would have been nice. :/
They need to fire Freidan.
In fact, I predict they are going to fire him.
Who replaces him is going to indicate a couple of things:
1. The conspiracy theorists believe this may be the pretense Obama needs in order to suspend an election. If there is any truth to that, the replacement will be a former general - someone from USAMRIID or something like that. The response to the outbreak will become military, and you’ll see close coordination with local PD’s who are already outfitted for this sort of thing.
2. Another flunky will replace him, which will reinforce Hanlon’s razor: ‘Don’t ascribe to malice that which can be adequately explained by incompetence.’
Either way, the response will be botched, and many will end up dying because of it. It’s just math - you look at how many health workers are dropping and the viral load necessary for infection and the absolute LACK of medical screening at the borders and it adds up to this thing doing serious damage.
I look at how the medical and government responded to the H1N1 outbreak in Hong Kong a few years back. They were at general quarters. I look at the response to something that has demonstrated itself as a world-killer and am flabbergasted. No real response whatsoever. MD’s are in huge denial.
Even all the vaunted US arrogance and prejudices haven’t kicked in yet - you’d think that any nurse or doc looking at a sick black man with an accent in the waiting room would at least take some sort of extra precaution.
“Hey, I didn’t see you put on a mask and gloves treating that tall Norwegian guy a few minutes earlier! Black guy from another country walks in with a fever and sneezing and you put on the gown, mask, and gloves? Racist much?”
ISIL isn’t Islamic, all Catholic priests are pedophiles, and the chances of a black man from Liberia presenting a fever giving you Ebola is ‘extremely remote’.
How many days is it to the election the Demonrats are supposed to lose? Oh yea, just enough time for a major OUTBREAK............. I’m wondering if they have enough magic serum for all the candidates or just the liberal ones.
Sounds basically like us tax paying americans had our throats slit with either Occam’s razor or Hanlon’s razor. Either way, walking dead.
Odd that the timing is absolutely perfect to impact the election
Not odd, planned. Remember what Godfather Rahm always says, “never let a crisis go to waste!” There is a reason they call them the”October Surprise.
You’re gonna see a ton of RAT candidates all of a sudden take an interest in closing the border. Ha, ain’t gonna work.
Friedan is their boy.
He’s expendable, of course, and if any HCWs in Dallas get sick, he WILL be fired. But he’s kept the troops on message so far, and said only what he’s been told to say, so if it does not break out, he’s survivable.
There is a effective spray that will work.
“DDT” is effective, it has saved many lives. True it was used indiscriminately and in incorrect ways ... It is also true many other insect treatments are used incorrectly.
HOWEVER” DDT” worked and saved many peoples lives. Many thousands/millions of people have died of malaria that came with the removal of “DDT” from use, as a result of the Book “Silent Spring”. There is a time and place for proper “DDT use. This is it!!! MOO
Other questions that need answering:
What pharmacy in Dallas did he fill prescription after being sent home 1st time? Who picked it up? Where else did he go?
What schools did these exposed children attend? Have they attended since US patient zero came down with symptoms? How long have these possibly sick others been symptomatic? Where all have they been?
Obviously our government is more concerned about politics and preventing panic than actually preventing the spread of this disease in US.
Well, they were struggling in Liberia, so it's only fair that they come here and have the American taxpayers support them while they sit on the porch.
Anything else would be racist.
Future generations of this family will be qualified for full benefits too.
So...get to work!
And there are still those on FR saying “All is well! This gives us a chance to PROVE to the TERRORISTS that we can HANDLE it!”.
Madness. The history of this age will be one of madness. I used to wonder why civilizations fell. I no longer do.
Not just the flight crew, either.
Imagine being the poor guy/gal who sat next to him. Everyone who flew fro IAD-DFW and sat next/close to a person possibly from Liberia has to be freaking out.
Maybe they’ve all been notified and are *being monitored*. Right.
A powerful phrase. Perhaps useful in the next election.
If I wasn’t laughing, I’d cry BUMP.
Just reported in Dallas that US Ebola patient zero lived in large apartment complex, but nothing to worry about folks...move along.
“Yup. Quarantines and restrictions are so 19th century. They get in the way of commerce and migration. Cant have that. [/s]”
And since this attitude really is the prevailing view of the elites of both political parties nothing is going to change until there is a major catastrophe.
And maybe not even then. 9-11 was perpetrated by Arabs who came here on student visas and never went home. Yet nothing was done in the aftermath to tighten up immigration controls when common sense says that Islamic immigration to the United States is a very real threat to the American people.
We can't post USA Today articles on FRtoh
“In the ER, people wear gloves. People scrub.”
Really? Clearly, you don’t work in an ER. “Scrub” is something one does before entering the sterile field in an OR, not something we do in the ER. We use alcohol-based hand sanitizers and occasionally wash our hands with soap. This is supposed to be done after every patient contact. Nurses are a little better than 50% compliant on surveys, doctors quite a bit less than 50% compliant.
Also, gloves are sometimes worn in some situations in the ER. People in the ER do not walk around with gloves on all the time. Gloves are *rarely* worn in Triage, and likewise rarely worn in “fast track” areas where they treat non-emergent cases such as suspected flu, which is what this guy came in with on the 24th or 26th.
Search for my other posts and you’ll see a more thorough insider’s guide to contamination risk in the ER from someone who knows that “scrub” doesn’t have anything to do with the ER, and gloves are only worn for certain procedures and circumstances.
Some points to consider:
1. This hospital sent this patient home with a suspected VIRAL illness with a prescription for ANTIBIOTICS—this should not give any of us comfort.
2. We don’t know how long ebola virus can survive on dry surfaces. Some things can survive only a relatively short time, such as cold and flu viruses (still, a couple days is plenty long), but others, such as Hepatitis B can survive on dry surfaces for up to 2 weeks.
3. We don’t know how effective alcohol-based hand sanitizers are at killing ebola on hands. Likewise for hand soaps commonly used in hand washing.
If anyone has information about #2 & #3 please post and let me know!!
