Doctors have been largely replaced in ER's by Nurse Practitioners. There is a doctor on staff who collaborates with them on the computer regarding diagnosis, protocol, treatment.

Feeling better now?

I have to say I have a lot of faith in Nurse Practitioners. For years I would get sick with a cold during the winter that would progress into bronchitis or pneumonia. I would cough for months. Nearly every winter this would repeat.

Lots of visits to doctors once I progressed to the bronchitis stage.

It took a Nurse Practitioner, listening to me cough through the door to say: you have asthma.

Started treating my asthma when I would get colds and I haven’t progressed to bronchitis in years. She was new to the practice, but she wasn’t so jaded not to “hear” my symptoms.
