Romney on 2016: “We’ve got a lot of people looking at the race. We’ll see what happens.”

Scouts honor: Not until today, having read the words of the man himself, have I sincerely believed he might run again. The RomneyWatch posts are fun to write but not because Mitt 2016 was a real thing I thought. They were fun because it wasnt a real thing. It was a way to collectively pretend-scare ourselves, like playing with a ouija board.
Now, suddenly, I look down and the planchette is moving by itself. And it spells M-I-T-T.
A recent column by the conservative pundit Byron York noted that Romney had kept in close contact with many of his advisers and aides. As we spoke, Romney compared the barrage of 2016-related questions to a scene in the film Dumb and Dumber. After Jim Carreys character is flatly rejected by Lauren Holly, she tells him that theres a one-in-a-million chance she would change her mind. So, Romney told me, embodying the character, Jim Carrey says, Youre telling me theres a chance.
This was the obvious opening for me to ask if there was a chance. Romneys response was decidedly meta I have nothing to add to the story but he then fell into the practiced political parlance of nondenial. Weve got a lot of people looking at the race, he said. Well see what happens.

There may be a Libertarian against George P., but I would rather sit it out and hope he trails Abbott by 500,000 or so.

Yea, I was thinking of 1852 and Scott v. Barbara Bush’s ancestor, Franklin Pierce of Red Hampshire.

Groundhog Day was a comedy. This will be a tragedy.

Weve got a lot of people looking at the race, he said. Well see what happens. These aren't the words of a fighter. He didn't want to win last time and he doesn't want to win this time either. He just wants to make sure the dems hold onto the executive branch so that Agenda 21 can keep moving forward and the Chamber of Commies gets a supply of cheap labor once all the Americans are killed off.
