How much are they spending on this, anyway?

Overtime for 1,000+ police.
Impending lawsuits for Fourth Amendment violations by residents in the area.
All the equipment.
$100,000 reward.

No-doubt if Frein had killed a civilian, there would not be this huge, intensive dragnet to catch him. That's what bothers me the most. All this is to satisfy their vendetta because he killed one of their own, as with Dorner. It's tantamount to saying that police believe their lifes are more important than civilians.

No, this is a display by the “elected” suits showing us taxpayers how important their security force / revenue collection agents are to them.

Assault on a police officer typically comes with separate charges and higher penalties. This has been going on for decades. It started not because their lives are more important, but because they are more likely to be assaulted than the average person.

Manhunts like this are to create “optics” to scare other people from trying the same. If they let this guy go, the cops know many times more disgruntled woodsmen would attempt the same. Relations with LE are at an all time low and there are plenty of people out there who had their lives ruined by LE/Govt corruption.
