LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Several business-related associations stand against a Metro Council proposal to raise the minimum wage.
In a joint statement, they say it "exceeds Council authority" and is "bad policy."
The statement - sent to media outlets today - was signed by nearly 20 groups including the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, the Kentucky Restaurant Association, and Greater Louisville, Inc.
In it, they say an increase would put local businesses at a competitive disadvantage and lead to job losses.
The proposal would raise the wage from $7.25 to $10.10 an hour over a three-year period.
Last week, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer said he supports raising the wage on the national level, but is concerned a local hike would cause some businesses to relocate and says the issue should be studied further.

Oh what do these job creators know! They’re just evil, white, rich, old SOB’s who make their money off the backs of the workin’ man!
“...supports raising the wage on the national level, but is concerned a local hike would cause some businesses to relocate...”
Huhhhh...??
A lot of businesses don’t really care what they are paying, so long as their competitors are not paying less.
But then they all have to raise their prices concurrently, which defeats the whole purpose.
Then there are the cases like Costco, which lobbies for a higher minimum specifically because they know their competition CAN’T pay it.
says the issue should be studied further.”
...”study” no further! The “issue” is that businesses will close, people will lose jobs and the ones that keep them will be worse off then ever because Big Macs will go through the roof. Hence, the asswipes that got the raise will want another...and another. So “study”?! All done.
Note the assertion that the locality has no damn power to set wages and salaries.
This should settle it, regardless of the merits of higher or lower minimum wages.
(By the way, why are liberals so stingy with other peoples’ money? If you can compel Joe to pay Jim $8 an hour, why not compel Jim to pay $88888888888888888888 per hour? Hell, I am waaaaaaay more compassionate than liberals. I’d set the minimum wage to $888888888888888888888888888888888888 per hour.)
Alison’s recent mailer says raising the minimum wage will create jobs.
Nope. Just more blame and more promises from dim politicians. The “workin’ man” will just lap it up as long as the dims promise more, more, more!
I got a robocall from her today.
I didn’t listen to it, so I didn’t get to hear how pro coal she is. /sarc
#YouMightBeALiberal if you think employers will increase their total wage budgets if the minimum wage were raised rather than spend the same amount on fewer workers.
It is a shell game.
