Hong Kong police have used tear gas to disperse thousands of pro-democracy protestors near the government complex, after a week of escalating tensions.
Dozens of demonstrators were arrested, with hundreds remaining in the city centre late on Sunday.
Protestors want the Chinese government to scrap rules allowing it to vet Hong Kong's top leader in the 2017 poll......

Well, after they crush these protests for breakfast maybe Commie China will decide that Taiwan should be taken out for Dinner... and not in the good way...

Another reminder that China is not a monolith. It is a collection of tribes knit together by the threat of force.

A lot of tweets and online pictures from Hong Kong and report that the Chicoms may have shut down Instagram in China to prevent the spreading of pictures and messages from HK.

I recall in 1997 when the Today Show went to Hong Kong and were celebrating the handover of power to the Chi-Coms.

We were in HK earlier this year.On our way to the Victoria Peak Tram (one of HK's big tourist attractions) we came upon a huge protest of some sort. All the signs were in Chinese,as were the speeches made so we couldn't be sure what the protest was about. The cops were everywhere. One of the cops,in a rather "authoritarian" fashion, told us to move on even though we weren't doing anything wrong.
A bit disconcerting...kinda made *me* think,for a moment,about Tienanmen Square.

What's this about?
The rallying cry of the students who staged a mass walkout and the Occupy Central demonstrators is the right to choose an administrator for HK without Beijing’s oversight; but underlying it all is rage about growing wealth disparity.

The HK police are slowly moving in to clear the protest so business can resume in a few hours.

One group that is pushing the protest forward does use the “Occupy” moniker.....
