James from Yukon men is a good guy. I watched that show with my wife and her city girl came out in full force and she disagreed. James does a service to his kids by teaching them the ways of their ancestors. I am sure his father probably did the same thing to him. If you are out in the Alaskan bush you have to know what to do and not panic or you will be lost forever.
Roger that. Sadly, when these folks open themselves up on these “reality” shows, they get unwanted attention. Notice the salmon restrictions now in Tanana. Now they are building a road to the far side of the Yukon river across from Tanana. The Gold miners all of a sudden get some scrutiny from the mine safety folks. The guy in South Carolina gets a visit from the building inspector and tax folks. Just sayin’.
Would ride my bike the 2+ miles to the creek and fish, build forts, shoot BB guns, etc. It was probably 4th grade and I told my parents I wanted to sleep out one night in a fort I had made of logs and brush. “Better bring a blanket!” (I was alone).
OTOH - looking back, I do really wonder how my parents let me do all of the stuff I did as a kid. Usually by myself.
