EPA chief pushes green energy agenda, ignores high electricity costs that result

Gina McCarthy insists reducing carbon emissions, fighting climate change boost economy

Gina McCarthy argued Thursday that her home state of Massachusetts is proof you can cut greenhouse gas emissions while fostering economic prosperity, but the Environmental Protection Agency administrator failed to mention the apparent trade-off for consumers: dramatically higher electricity prices.

In a speech promoting President Obama’s climate change agenda, Ms. McCarthy ignored the fact that New England states — which nearly a decade ago formed the nation’s first regional “cap and trade” system — are dealing with electricity rates more than 35 percent higher than the national average.

She also argued that economic growth goes hand in hand with efforts to reduce carbon and other emissions, but data show no clear correlation between the two. In fact, the nation’s largest emitter, Texas, boasted one of the highest rates of economic growth last year.

Critics immediately poked holes in Ms. McCarthy’s claims as the fight between the administration and its opponents on Capitol Hill and in the energy industry heats up.

Mr. Obama this week declared that the U.S. will continue to lead the world in reducing harmful emissions. He pledged to build on the White House’s unprecedented restrictions on power plants and historic auto fuel efficiency standards and to take further steps to slow down climate change.

In trying to sell the public on its plan, the administration is making the case that lowering greenhouse gas emissions will help, not hurt, individual consumers and the larger economy while creating tens of thousands of jobs in the renewable energy sector.

But that argument is riddled with bad assumptions and is merely an attempt to spin data to better fit the White House narrative, critics say.

And they are asking for a double digit increase for next year. It was just announced.

Yes, yes, I know..."move".

When the DC metro area and beltway are green energy users to the tune of 85%, I will have a discussion.

And oh, by the way.......In states with sales tax on food, did you know that the people who use EBT cards don't have to pay sales tax on their purchases?

That is income. The EBT cards are income. It's all taxable as federal income under IRS rules. But nobody issues them a 1099 for the benefits they receive (income). Their free healthcare, food, phones, daycare, housing, and utility assistance is all income and taxable.

In states with no income tax and use a sales tax instaed, I would think they would be raising holy hell over the hundreds of millions in revenue lost?!

Wow, according to this article the price per kilowatt hour in Massachusetts was 14.96 cents, in SW Washington a few months back when I checked our bill it was just under .09 per kw/hr. Of course we have the advantage of hydroelectric power which is much cheaper.

He is not ignoring the higher prices for electricity. His boss announced early on that your power bills would necessarily rise substantially. Raising the price of power (and of food) is a specific goal of this President. That is part of the strategy of impoverishing the Middle Class.

Well, now, the EPA has been emitting regulations hand-over-fist, which means regulations are EPA emissions. That they are harmful is self-evident. Which means they are harmful emissions. Therefore, sticking a cork in the appropriate orifices of the EPA just might be good for the nation and the world.

The EPA from the top down needs a good double enema. 2001-2006 was the golden chance to rid the public of this cancer of a federal agency from our nation. Instead we got Christie Todd Whitman RINO Elite. Never ever let the DEMs have more power in government and never let the GOP forget that it’s POTUS signature created this feral beast to start with.

It is past time to do away with it.

Interior should have been handling this duty all along, and frankly, they have grown a mite big for their britches ($1500 for a license to take pictures?).

The Fedgov should be halved in size.

The sad part, the thing working against the GOP, is that the last time they had that opportunity, they did nothing meaningful in that direction. They spewed democrat math and tried to convince the public that cutting the rate of increase in size and scope was a cut. That way, things only grew by 7% instead of 10%, but from the cheapseats, they still grew.
