Deborah, the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire, and the last surviving Mitford sister, has died aged 94.
Her son, the Duke of Devonshire, announced the death in a statement from Chatsworth House, her stately home.
The Mitford sisters fascinated - and sometimes scandalised - British society in the 1940s.
Unity was a friend of Hitler, Diana, the second wife of British fascist leader Sir Oswald Mosley, and Jessica a left-wing polemicist.
Deborah was more focused on her home life.

I never got the allure of those broads - but thanks for posting!
I believe the Addams Family was loosely based on this clan.
or was it The Munsters
So, was she a Commie or a Nazi?
Neither.
I “don’t get” a lot of British aristocracy.
Were these girls the 1930’s version of the Kardashians?
Sorta but hardly as trashy....they were more eccentric...not as tawdry unless one believes Unity banged Adolf and obviously not the jungle fever which appears to infect the Kardashian skanks...theirs was a fetish more along Joy Division
These girls were quite pretty too....the one who dallied in Hitlers entourage was mentally ill...killed herself publicly in Munich...some Park or somewhere grandiose
They had a crazy upbringing...another sister ran with Nazis till the war started
There is fairly famous modern Mitford relative....cant recall her
Is it Annabelle Rothschild.......McQueens former muse...not sure...Borges likely knows
Times journalist Ben Macintyre caricatured them as “Diana the Fascist, Jessica the Communist, Unity the Hitler-lover; Nancy the Novelist; Deborah the Duchess and Pamela the unobtrusive poultry connoisseur.
Okay, maybe it is just me; but, in the black and white photo from the article, she brings to mind a young Margaret Thatcher.
Thanks for posting. The Cavendishes are related to the Spencers (Princess Diana). Georgiana Spencer was married to William Cavendish, the 5th Duke of Devonshire. Her life was portrayed by Keira Knightly in the movie “The Duchess.” Like Diana, she had a bad husband and marriage. She fell in love, and had a daughter out-of-wedlock. Her husband forced her to go away to have the child and she had to give her up. Sarah Ferguson (ex-Duchess of York) is descended from that daughter.
She was splendid, and she will be missed.
Really? In that family?
I do apologize for jumping to conclusions and judging her by her sisters.
