Boxer slams Goodell for not issuing ‘zero-tolerance’ policy

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) blasted National Football League (NFL) Commissioner Roger Goodell for not explicitly saying there is a zero-tolerance policy for domestic violence at his latest press conference.

On Monday, Boxer sent a letter to the NFL’s new senior vice president of public policy and government affairs, Cynthia Hogan, calling on her to do more to address domestic violence within the league.

“You need to have zero tolerance as a stated goal in order to have policies that achieve it,” Boxer wrote. “You arrive at this job at a pivotal moment in history, and have the chance to make lasting and lifesaving changes in the days and months ahead.”

Boxer’s letter came after Goodell’s press conference on Friday, where he outlined the NFL's policies regarding domestic violence. She said there were “glaring omissions” from his remarks.

“I never heard Mr. Goodell mention ‘zero tolerance’ for violence against women,” Boxer wrote. “Second, Mr. Goodell referred often to the role of law enforcement and our overall judicial system. However, as you know, most of these incidents are never reported to law enforcement.”

Lawmakers were quick to press the NFL on the issue of domestic violence after TMZ posted a video this month showing former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice punching his then-fiancee, Janay Palmer, who was knocked unconscious. Rice’s original punishment from the NFL was a two-game suspension, but after the video was released and public outrage grew, the Ravens cut him from the team and the league suspended him indefinitely.

Previously, Boxer and several other female lawmakers sent a letter to Goodell asking him to issue a "zero-tolerance" policy.

This time Boxer made a personal appeal to Hogan, citing their previous collaborative efforts on passage of the Violence Against Women Act.

“I well remember the days when we worked together on the first Violence Against Women Act and I know how hard you have worked throughout your entire career to combat domestic violence,” Boxer wrote. “I look forward to hearing back from you and to working together again to combat violence against women in the NFL and throughout our society.”

Hogan had served as staff director for the Senate Judiciary Committee when Vice President Biden was chairman.

Boxer makes me sick. Where is the commie ‘RATS’ “zero tolerance” policy for domestic violence being committed by their illegal alien buddies?

Boxer is so stuck in the 90’s and so not relevant if she ever was in the first place.

Does Boxer still have trouble kiting a check, or does the House Bank cover it for her?

Zero tolerance will result in a nearly all white NFL.

Just as high standards result in almost all white PD’s.

Then they will claim the NFL is racist.

Hey NFL! How about telling the “public policy and government affairs” types to shove it and just play FOOTBALL? Let law enforcement deal with off the field violence, and then there’s that pesky “presumed innocent until proven guilty” thing, which gives Communist totalitarians like Boxer no end of headaches/s ;) Are there no “zero-tolerance” policies in COLLEGES, which all these players have attended, the most relentlessly politically correct environments in America? What’s going on THERE???

zero tolerance policies are logically, incredibly stupid.

they ignore facts and ignore case-by-case differences.

they forbidany use of common sense.

they forbid any use of rational thought.

they are “no-think” just knee-jerk reactions.

it doesn’t matter what actually makes sense in a given, specific situation if it differs from the policy.

that’s what zero-tolerance policies are.

Hey Babs, how about a zero tolerance policy for muzzies kill an Ambassador?

Or for an IRS that investigates and harasses the opposition party?

Weird. I just issued a “zero tolerance” policy for asshat liberal politicians. Actually I issued it a long, long time ago.

The NFL and the public in general can “police” NFL players without the interference of power mad politicians in our government getting involved.

In other words, keep your disgusting, fat nose out of it Boxer. You have no right to dictate behavior to the rest of the country whether you like it or not. You advice and guidance is neither warranted nor desired.

a zero-tolerance policy for domestic violence

How about a zero-tolerance policy for domestic violence in congress? Or a zero-tolerance policy for rape in the White House?

Hey Boxer, you NY slut, no one really gives a damn what you think. Certainly not NFL football fans.

You have been irrelevant for years, and you know it.

Never got over the L.A. Times endorsing Republican Fong over you, have you? You are useless, unwanted, just go away and shut up.

No one is listening, no one cares.

Babs, why don't you demand a zero tolerance policy foe GM. There are lots more employees there, consequently there must be more domestic violence.

It is just as ludicrous to demand action from the NFL as it is to demand it from GM,Ford or General Mills. Currently all 50 states (not sure about the other seven) make it a zero tolerance crime.

I've got it! Why don't we let football players play football, and the police handle domestic violence.

how many have felony records?
how many are serial rapists or conspired to mitigate damage for one?
