For a long time, and way back when, I kept a ‘research’ old microwave out in the garage. The best was loosely fluffed up coarse bronze wool. Not steel wool. It’s a good time, although I suspect that x-rays may be produced. So be mindful of that.

My brother had the largest Nexie tube ever. That was fun.
NB: A burnt out filament bulb puts out a nice display but the glass cannot take the heat for too long.

Stuff fine steel wool contained in an old whisk on a string.
Light it and spin it fast.
Safety glasses may be a good idea.
