Kansas: The most important race in the country (Brownback)
humanevents.com ^ | 9/22/14 | Grover Norquist

Posted on 09/22/2014 10:12:05 AM PDT by cotton1706

The American Left and strategic thinking Reagan Republicans agree: The re-election campaign of Kansas Governor Sam Brownback is now the most important race in America.

Kansas? Governor? We were all told that the fight to control the United States Senate was the end all and be all of 2014.

Yes, the fight for the Senate is important. It is well understood by all concerned. Republicans chose stronger than expected candidates. Democrats often missed opportunities.

But the direction of the country will be set by the Kansas race. Why? Kansas is a relatively small state with only four congressmen. Why would anyone notice one state’s governor?

The reason is because Sam Brownback has successfully led two strategic campaigns that can be repeated in the 23 other states that have a Republican Governor and a Republican legislature. Together those states have more than half the nation’s population and their combined electoral votes could elect a president. His model, if followed in other states, can change the nation.

What did Sam do?

First he led the successful effort to turn the Kansas Legislature from nominal Republican control to become a Reagan Republican legislature committed to lower spending, lower taxes, tort reform, and school choice by primarying 13 “Republicans” senators who voted with the teachers unions, trial lawyers, and big spending special interests.

It is easy for a Republican Governor to campaign against liberal Democrat legislators who oppose their agenda. That is expected. But Republican governors usually take the opposition of “moderate” Republicans as a given.

While I don't care for Grover Norquist, I do hope Brownback wins.

Both party establishments have been trying to bury Reaganism for years. The just LOVE republican governors from "blue" states like Romney and Christie, but they despise and assist in destroying or at least marginalizing governors like Brownback and Scott Walker.

The establishment is shellshocked as to what has happened in KS-Gov and KS-Sen race.

A month and a half before the election, everybody’s on the defensive and running weakling campaigns.

Brownback is ceritnaly no Rebel, I have always been "Meh" about him.

We certainly can do better here in Kansas. To me, he IS the Establishment. However we do have Sec of State Kris Kobach that help keeps his Amnesty Rinoness in line.

So, we could do worse too.

Brownback deserves support - his model for eliminating whole strata of taxes is superb.

Yes, I remember during the Amnesty debates in 2006 and 2007, he fell for the “they’re all human beings” sympathetic nonsense.

You can tell that the unions, the media, and the big government politicians do not like Brownback, they have pulled out all the stops to defeat him. The defeated Republicans are the leaders of the effort to defeat him and to elect the phony Independent in the U.S. Senate race against Pat Roberts. The liberal Republicans who have been cast out of office will all become Democrats if these two races can produce Democrat winners and resurrect the Democrat Party in Kansas.

Re: The Kansas Senate and Governor races: Pat Roberts and Sam Brownback:

I guarantee you that if one loses, they both lose. If one wins, they both win. There will be NO split victory, or loss, in Kansas’ top two races. And, I might add: Even though I love the guy, Brownback’s poor perception in Kansas will also pull votes from his GOP ticket partner; Pat Roberts. It’s just not looking good for Pattie.

What say ye? Anybody?

Having worked on Sam's very first Primary campaign for the Senate from KS, he was opposed by the GOPe (Sheliah Frahm who was a "placeholder" for Bill Graves) and when he beat out his local opponent then ran for real, trust me the GOP long knives were out in force against him!

Their main complaints: he isn't "our kind of candidate (aka he was pro-life, pro-family, pro-2nd Amendment and pro-KS)."

Then Gov Bill Graves refused to even shake his hand when he won the Primary, so I do know a bit about how those games are played.

He also ran on term limits (which he abided by and came home in 2 terms) but did vote with "the leadership" on some things for which I didn't like and let him know in no uncertain terms - especially in the 2007 amnesty sham! He was told by Kansans that if he even thought about becoming KS Governor, he'd best back far, far away from that one.

As he and Rick Santorum shared a DC apartment to save money and live in their districts at the same time, Santorum was very favorable to amnesty because "his church backed it" and as Sam had become Catholic around that time, he signed on to the same thing.

Lastly, Sam is still treated by the GOPe as not a member of that club as they are pro-abortion, pro-gay, pro-Council on Foreign Relations, none of which he is! Is he still a bit mod for me, yes but I'm pretty constitutional on most things - not Libertarian but definitely a Constitutionalist.

Thank you for the Info ZeroSix.

I remember back in 2004-2006 when I was in High School and the Immigration Debate was raging then.

My Father would go on and on about what a Betrayal it was for Brownback to be for Amnesty for Illegals.

So that was my first fore ray with him.

My Second was around 2006 or so when he came to my High School and My Sister got to ask him a question. She asked about Amnesty for Illegals and he danced around the question :P

You're certainly welcome.

As to Sam, he is a good guy personally and deeply committed pro-life, pro-family and pro-2nd Amend. but has his "squishy" moments. Personally, I think this is due to his strong allegiance to the Catholic Church.

I do know for a fact that the KS media despise him and this is no joke!

Liberals despise him almost as the media (ha, ha). What they hate about the man besides his strong pro-life stance is his strong drive to lower taxes and more than that, his drive to make KS an income tax FREE state!

How you spend your money is not his concern, how government spends it is and liberals hate that!

They've never met a tax increase they can't embrace (well mostly unless it was to save the life of one unborn baby!)

There are few things I want more than the abolition of any and all Income Taxes.

And the Tax Cuts we have gotten since he has been Governor are Appreciated.

Like I said, we could defiantly do worse. :P

Also, with a recent scare in my family when it came to Abortion, Kansas' Anti-Abortion laws are a G-d Send.

Is this case of Kobach vs Taylor actually hurting Kobach?

I don’t know if swing voters would care whether or not he is trying to keep a Democrat on the ticket.

I suppose if by some chance Kobach lost he could run against Jerry Moran and probably win the primary.

Norquist should shut up and let Kobach unite the party.
