A robber near El Reno, Oklahoma, targeted the wrong home to attack. Instead of weakly cowering like an impotent Moms Demand Attention supporters, Cathy Kouba took action, flanked the surprised burglar by looping around the house, and then unloaded on him:
Cathy Koubas home security system alarm jolted her awake Thursday night. She said she realized someone was trying to kick in her back door.
I have a daughter thats handicapped and she was asleep on the bottom floor, Kouba said. And so for the fear of her being hurt, motherly instincts kick in and, you know, I worked hard for what Ive got. And youre not going to come and take it away from me.
Kouba said she grabbed the gun her son gave her for Mothers Day and ran out the front door to confront the intruder out back. [I cocked the gun], saw that the door had broke down, then I saw him hitting over the fence and head to the creek, Kouba said.
Kouba said she fired and thinks she hit him in his backside. Adding insult to injury, the intruder got tangled in her electric fence before escaping.
Law enforcement found a blood trail that suggests Kouba connected with the burglar, but does not yet have a suspect in custody.
In many jurisdictions shooting a fleeing criminal is considered assault with a deadly weapon and so firing at a fleeing suspect is not encouraged, but the authorities here seem to show very little interest in charging Kouba. The simple fact of the matter is that the odds of a successful prosecution of the mother of a special needs child defending her home is between slim and none, and the prosecutor knows it.
Unfortunately the same response in some parts of the nationeach and every one dark blue politicallywould result in her being charged.
Fire only when faced with immediate lethal force, folks.
Recently received my permit after NRA Class and training at our local shooting range. And I now am the proud owner of a Glock 19 4th gen.
“I was so scared,I thought he was going to kill me.”
THAT is the only thing you should say when talking to the cops. You might want to add,”My chest hurts and I’m having trouble breathing.”
At that point they have to stop questioning you and call an ambulance.
I agree.
I hate it when that happens.
I was mighty close to doing the same thing until it was explained to me that it would likely kill the perp. There had been a rash of bicycle thefts in our town, including one of my sons’ bikes from our front lawn in broad daylight.
I wanted to wire a bike and wet the ground, to kinda’ get the thief’s attention. But the death penalty for bike theft is a little over the top.
A criminal forfeits is rights to government protection when he/she commits burglary. The right to freedom from violent crime and home invasion supersedes them.
I know what happens when one urinates on an electric fence. Oh youth. The follies of youth.
Just use a fence zapper for dogs that you can run a wire to the bike. Use the bike as bait, but make sure it is insulated from the ground with a piece of cardboard or something.
Get an HD camera set up to watch it and record the thief who takes it. Then you can laugh every time you watch the fool get zapped with instant replay!
You might even go to the length of putting an electronic tracker in the bike itself.
Is that the home invader triathlon?
The perp was buck-shotted and then zotted!
Not if you are a minority per Holder.
She must be a good mother to have raised such a good son...
Now if the intruder had worn a vest, blue jacket, and badge and had yelled “Police! Get down!”, I wonder if she would have acted the same.
With the rise of SWAT raids and no knock warrants, common criminals are probably going to act the same way to make their targets hesitate to take action.
Good news, don’t leave home without it.
Get a comfortable holster and carry everywhere you can legally. I recently purchased the Cloak Tuck 2 from these guys. Love it ... so comfortable and concealable I hardly know I’m packing.
Made in the USA and very reasonably priced.
Had a friend who had trouble with the hedge he was starting. The last one in line was dying. He noticed a neighbor letting her dog pee on it on their daily walks.
Wired it up for the next days walk. Dog howled and jumped and wouldn’t walk on that side of street from then on.

Except in NYC, where you then run the risk of being put in a choke hold.
Here in the People's Socialist Hell-Hole of Illinois, this woman would be charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon, her Son charged for performing a "straw man purchase" and both would be sitting in jail while the special needs daughter would be shipped off to one of this state's many "special needs" group homes where she'd be promptly sexually molested repeatedly by some group home worker who's a registered sex offender working in a group home because the State was too stupid, incompetent or cheap to run a background check.
As for me, I don't care what state it is, there's no way I'd ever sit on a jury and vote to convict this brave woman. If it were 11-1 against me, I'd sit there as long as I had to to either convince the other 11 to see things my way, or make sure it was a hung jury.
I don't think there's a jury in the country that would convict this woman (outside of one based on Crook County, IL - Chicago.)
