Ecofeminism, or ecological feminism, is a term coined in 1974 by Françoise d'Eaubonne. It is a philosophy and movement born from the union of feminist and ecological thinking and the belief that the social mentality that leads to the domination and oppression of women is directly connected to the social mentality that leads to the abuse of the natural environment. It combines eco-anarchism or bioregional democracy with a strong ideal of feminism. Its advocates often emphasize the importance of interrelationships between humans, non-human others (e.g. pigs, squirrels, toads), and the earth.

Eco-feminism is worship of Mother Earth, lowering people to the level of animals but raising women up as higher than men because they alone can understand the mysteries of the “holy mother”.
In short, feminism + eco-worship = eco-feminism.
The problem is that my religion doesn’t mandate making non-believers live in poverty for the sake of my God, and it certainly prefers that they join my faith but can let them alone to live their own - whereas they think the world would be better if 90% of us dropped dead so they’d have a mythical Eden on Earth.

They see Judeo-Christian and Muslim faiths as a patriarchal suppression of women, whereas they think the maternal sculptures by cave-men are proof of primitive Mother Earth worship. (Good examples of this belief in the Clan of the Cave Bear series.)
They think religions when a male god are used to suppress and subordinate women, from the mythical free and higher role they had before.
Ironic though is the high death rate among hunter-gatherers today, regularly slaughtering men and kidnapping women. While you can point to one Indian group with open marriages and Nepalese or Tibetans that have poor brothers share a wife and a few tribes where women controlled inheritance (Hawaiian, Pueblo), no major civilization or large language group has been matriarchal and a civilization.

____

In 1974 we were already into the long slide that has taken us where we are today. Phooey to ecofeminism.
