The first results are coming in for the referendum to decide whether Scotland should stay in the UK or become an independent country.

Lovely picture, yarddog!
Agreed. Glasgow will be telling. I am not interested (I have no stake, I’ve been following for a year) but now thAt it’s over I hope they stay with the UK.
Stability has a value. Size has a value. 307 years together have done a lot of good for Scots and English (and Welsh). North Sea Oil is a means, and not an end. The UK was so worried, that they promised a greater autonomy for Scotland. They will have to work out the tax angle.
I still feel like a NO vote, meaning 90% of Scottish resident vote, and a majority vote to continue the 307 years of economic and social progress they have had so far, that’s a win for UK. It also gives the US UK Canadian Austailian friendship a nice bit of stability.
If Scotland goes the other way, I think they will have a thought time, but I wish them well. I personally have had some good times in Edinburgh. Our country need friends, and I would want the Scots as friends.
No I don’t think she will be Queen of Scotland if they get a ‘yes’ to succeed.
I’ve been watching the BBC coverage. They just made a joke about Florida and ‘hanging chads’. Lovely.
5 of 32 counties reporting...so far, all NO.
from the BBC-
03:35: Indicators of vote John Curtice Professor of politics at Strathclyde University Contributions from BBC reporters at the counts in both Midlothian and Aberdeen - both places where we would expect the result to be not dissimilar to that of Scotland as a whole - suggest the “No” side is quite comfortably ahead.
If these reports are correct then the expectation of a “No” victory is likely to be fulfilled.
They can become a republic.... which means separate passports, separate financial system, separate armed forces, separate economy and they’d have to reapply for EU membership.
That would make my vomit vomit.
Those are good bellwethers.
A lot of Scots want independence - including many who are voting “NO”. They just feel the price is too high.
I realize the Scotland of today is very far left of UK, and looking for a larger Nanny state....if they get that it will soon show them there has to be some to pay the bills, all cannot live on the dole.
Yes, it could become a Republic but I wouldn’t hold out much hope in the first few years, some growing up would have to take place. The EU Membership may fall by the way side...depending on their determination to make it on their own....burning bridges may become an option....lol
The first tallies seem to say ‘NO” to the secession, but by morning ‘who knows’?
The Tories do not hold a single seat in Scotland.
Most English would have been happy to see them go. Scotland and England are divided and this vote does nothing to bring them together.
The outcome of the referendum is likely to result in the UK becoming a federal state with devolved Parliaments and ample autonomy for all its regions.
Reports are that Alex Salmond, the “instigator”, as it were, of the Referendum, has boarded a private jet with his wife and taken off from Aberdeen airport. There is no word on where he’s going.
Some wags in the Twitterverse are speculating he’s leaving the country.
We need another Christian delegation in the U.N.
If the Scots vote for independence will Cameron invade the country and kill a half million to rein them back in? I did hear he was a big fan of the murdering railroad lawyer from Illinois.
No.
The breakup will be peaceful.
If you have a divorce, both sides will be happier than if they’re a feuding couple.
A forced marriage has never brought out the best in people.
It looks like the adults have carried the day in Scotland. I’m betting the youth vote...as young as 16 ...were clueless about what would happen if Scotland was to declare independence. Perhaps some realized that indepence could mean an end to the generous public dole that they enjoy.
Scotland the Brave :

If Scotland were to be truly BRAVE again , it would rid itself of all the disgusting Leftist parliamentarians and sickening pro-Palestinian Muz-ophiles . A certain insanity as consumed the Scots and they are a far cry from what we once were . I pity a ‘independent ‘ entity , at this time , with so much confused perfidy about , and such a vast influx of non-Scot asian immigrants to affect Scotland’s future with their relentless ranks of non-Scots babies being thrust into the demographic mix .
Clear out thine house of all this filth , and then stand tall as an independent Scots nation FOR SCOTS !
51% - NO
49% - YES
Only 51% No after Dundee City came in for Yes - http://www.bbc.com/news/events/scotland-decides/results
