Rats... oh well.
For as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom, for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
Robert the Bruce, Declaration of Arbroath, 6 April 1320
To all of us who are puzzled over the pluses and minuses (the North Sea Oil Fields being thought nearly dry/the muzzy invasion of England). What’s in it for each side?
Scotland isn’t under English rule.
Based on 50,000 votes? I think several million people went to the polls.
A ‘no’ wouldn’t surprise me. Anyway, even if ‘yes’ i’d imagine Scotland will be part of the ‘Commonwealth Realms’ (unless they opt for a republic), with its own PM but the queen will remain as the Queen of Scotland. Actually if am not mistaken, HM has more Scottish blood than many other British monarchs - her mother came from an ancient aristocratic Scottish family.
Results still coming in. How about some Scottish poetry in the meantime;

Well, that was a whole lot of nothing. Now the media can return to your regularly-scheduled programming: Terrorism, disease and the midterms.
O flower of Scotland
When will we see your like again
That fought and died for
Your wee bit hill and glen
And stood against him
Proud Edward’s army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again
The hills are bare now
And autumn leaves lie thick and still
O’er land that is lost now
Which those so dearly held
And stood against him
Proud Edward’s army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again
Those days are passed now
And in the past they must remain
But we can still rise now
And be the nation again
That stood against him
Proud Edward’s army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again
At least according to Monty Python.
UNLESS, extra ordinary circumstances happen.
It’s all just a bunch of antidisestablishmentarianism ...
