While Scottish citizens as a whole appear to be evenly divided in their opinions on Scottish independence ahead on Fridays referendum vote, the views of Scottish Jews tend to fall more against independence.
The Jewish community [leans] more towards the no vote than the yes vote," said Paul Morron, president of the Glasgow Jewish Representative Council, according to Israel National News.
Morron explained that because anti-Israel sentiment is more prominent in Scottish politics than it is in the United Kingdom as a whole, many Jews fear the escalation of that sentiment if Scotland becomes independent. There are also fears regarding manifestations of anti-Semitism in Scotland that are often connected to anti-Israel sentiment, especially in the wake of this summers conflict between Israel and Hamas.
"The indication is that the Scottish government would be rather more hostile towards Israel, and there would be far more attention given to that hostility in the media, and I think that would put added pressure on the Jewish community here, Morron said.
David Kaplan, who was born in Scotland, told Yedioth Ahronoth that for more than 25 years, the country's professional unions and the liberal left have been running a pro-Palestinian campaign. I have watched numerous speeches by Parliament Member George Galloway against Israel."
Marc Livingston, a 26-year-old Jewish lawyer from Glasgow, told Yedioth that although the Scottish National Party, which is behind the independence bid, is "a liberal left-wing party, which has shown solidarity towards the Palestinian people, whether rightfully or not," party leader Alex Salmond "has always treated the Jewish community well and respects our contributions to the Scottish society."
"Unfortunately, the recent operation in Gaza led to a rise in the number of anti-Semitic incidents in Scotland, but that has nothing to do with the referendum," said Livingston.
At the end of the day, "the [Jewish] community isn't united" on the independence issue, according to Livingston, who added that the matter is "a Scottish rather than a Jewish issue."
They need to get out, then. I wouldn’t trust any country in the UK to protect the Jews. Seriously, they shouldn’t wait any longer.
Our local fishwrap said this vote was scheduled today (Thursday). Which is it?
Similar reasons have been proffered by Jewish political groups for supporting liberals, but it’s shortsighted. The answer to Jewish destiny isn’t political. That’s to plan how to par-tay in Babylon, so to speak. It’s theological. It is the attitude towards the Lord.
Anyhow the Scots are pushing against more and more ungodly British liberalism, which in the longer term would do more to hurt than to help Jews.
My guess here, is that anti-Jewish sentiment comes from those who resent the (unfortunately large) liberal segment of worldly Jews. They would have fewer bones to pick with small-c conservative Jews.
Scotland - 1.4% population are Muslim (mostly S.E. Asian)
England - 5% population Muslim and growing exponentially.
I’d want independence too.
Sometimes it’s easier to deal with southeast Asian Muslims — it’s the luck of the draw. Sometimes I hear about ghastly things in Indonesia, for instance. But they’d probably be in Scotland mostly for the sake of business relationships. That kind of limits how rabid someone can be.
If Jews think Scottish Presbyterians are hostile, yup they should try Muslims.
The ‘No’ crowd sure sounds desperate with stories such as this.
Yeah here it is........
Glasgow Scotland school makes non-Muslim students attend mosque for indoctrination and pray.
Yes and here is another lovely video, 15 year old tortured and killed in Scotland for not being Muslim:
MUSLIM GANG TORTURE & KILL 15 YEAR OLD BOY IN SCOTLAND FOR BEING NON-MUSLIM
Singaporean farmers worry about effect of Brazilian football final on Spirograph sales in Des Moines.
How large is the Muslim population in Scotland? Is it larger than that of England?
I was in grad school with many Malaysian Muslims. Very light hearted people, one was one of my best friends in fact, until he insulted my dog Dutch that is ;-)
There were at least six or seven Malaysians women too, all wearing the full burka. Don’t know how my friend could tell them apart just from the eyes.
Some don’t get into the grimmer parts of Islam.
It wouldn’t take a long period of time before the muslim cancer metastasizes inside Scotland, a place with a small population. Muslims, at 5% of the population in the UK, can run amok and kill whomever they want with little to no resistance. Very soon, we’ll see the same thing in Scotland.
Interesting. I would have thought that one of the motivations for separation is England’s refusal to deal with the spread of muzzy immigration and sharia law.
If youd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.

Well Scotland will still be in Europe. Maybe closer to the continent if independent.
