I have always been amazed by the ease with which liberals believe absolute fantasies. Here we see liberals trying to give "real" advice about defending yourself when your home is invaded by criminals. First, they get their expert adviser from the rabidly anti-Second Amendment, anti-self defense NYPD. The adviser is a hostage negotiator who is trained to try to talk his way out of crisis situations. His "expert" advice: keep a can of wasp spray handy. After all, it works against wasps, right? You could also spray yourself with a can of criminal-repellant spray too. And be sure to leave your bedroom doors wide open. It makes it easier for other people to hear. Of course, it also makes it easier for home invaders to get into your bedroom in the middle of the night even though you sleep with a your trusty can of wasp spray. And the ultimate piece of liberal advice when worse comes to worse confronting criminals - just be polite and submit! Criminals are really nice people who just need to be treated with respect; then, the criminal will treat you with respect in return.

Right! How many women and children have to be kidnapped, raped, and murdered by thugs & sex offenders before the libs figure out that submission empowers criminals? How many decent people have to be beaten & murdered in their own homes before these liberals wake up?

It comes down to some simple questions: do you want to be at the mercy of criminals in your own home or would you rather that the home invaders were at your mercy? If you are going to defend yourself and your loved ones against a violent criminal, do you want a can of bug spray or a gun? Do you think the NYPD reaches for bug spray or for their guns when they have to defend their lives?

Welcome to reality!

One of the easiest and least expensive means of making home invasion much more difficult and time consuming, is both inexpensive and easy. It does so by making even ordinary doors much harder to bust in, unless you totally destroy the door.

What you need:

One to three 60d (60 penny or 6”) nails.
Metal tube sheaths, 1 per nail, about 3” length, a little wider than the nail.
Concrete drill bit slightly wider than sheaths.
Strong metal/concrete glue.
Dustoff or spray can air.

Drill from 1 to 3 holes in the concrete in front of the door that swings in. Use the dustoff to blow any sand out of the hole(s). Test to make sure the sheaths can fit in each hole. Then glue each sheath into a hole.

Once the glue is dried, and the door is shut, drop a nail into each sheath. That door will be very hard to bust open, giving you much more time to recover your firearm.

Since he’s NYPD, he can’t recommend a gun, because they’re illegal in NYC for all the but political overclass and their flunkies. You can be damned sure Zeins doesn’t depend on wasp spray in his bedroom.

OK first thing is post your property No Trespassing. This strengthens your case legally and put the perp in the wrong legal wise no matter his intent. Second legal item is do only half of what Joe Bidden said to do. Buy a shotgun yes. Shoot it into the air? NO! That can get you an instant trip to the Crossbars Hotel real fast in many states. A shotgun is the most effective inside the home defense weapon but not always the most practical such as when you are in bed. A good pistol should also be included.

Each person has their own taste as far as a pistol goes. I prefer a revolver for safety reasons. Less chance of an unwanted DC and if loaded it's still ready to go otherwise. Teach family members firearm safety starting with kids at Toddler age. Teach older members from about 12 on up self defense.

Get a good dog. It doesn't have to be a Pit Bull, Dobie, or the likes. I use Two Ratty Security. They are accurate, alert me to things going on I can't hear {I'm half deaf, and there's no liability concerns. Smaller dogs are also easier to deal with living inside.

Next thing is security monitoring for detecting unwanted guest before they even get to your door. How expensive? How effective? How High Tech? I keep it simple. For about $15 a pop Harbor Freight sells battery powered Bunker Hill motion sensors and you can buy them to where they are on the same channel or different channels. By placing the receiver in separate locations from others you can tell where the perp is. Place them in positions the intruder has to pass by to enter the home. One drawback is animals sometimes set them off. Other drawback IMO is they are white so I use a Sharpie and change the color to that of where I'm placing it. Do not color the lens.

Next is real important and often the most overlooked and that is lighting. The idea is to discourage someone from wanting to try and break in. Outside lighting is the downfall in many cases. I use flood lights PAR 38 I think it is at about 90 watts because 120 watts is hard to find. A good energy saving alternative is a couple of well placed street lights. Don't skimp on the wattage. I like the floodlights because it puts perp at disadvantage of having to look into them. Next is indoor lighting. I keep about four lights on all night in a 1200 sq ft home. None of the lights are in direct line of sight from the bed. IOW I can see into the living room enough to identify anyone but they would have difficulty seeing me. The lighting doesn't blind me. Lighting gives you better aim conditions and really is a good idea in event of other issues such as a fire.

Other than that I make it difficult but not impossible to gain entry. The perp will have to make lots of noise which triggers the Two Terrier Home Security System LOL.

If they get inside the house they’re dead. Pretty simple.

This guy is out of a bad movie. Get a gun, load it up, put it on your nightstand. Shoot and kill anybody who invades your home. Then after they are dead let your kids spray them with wasp spray. :-)

45 years ago I read a book on home protection. The ONE thing I remember about it was.....”Break apart a pair of scissors and tape the blade to a broom handle to use a s a spear..”

I thought, how stupid! But that was in the anti-gun days after the murder of Bobby Kennedy when people were giving up their guns to the police.

“The great part is, when you spray, it will go 20 to 25 feet,” Zeins added. An intruder hit with the spray will be temporarily blinded. Please check your state and local laws on the legality of using these sprays for self-defense.

Can envision it now. You wake up startled by an intruder in your room, you fumble around and find your can of wasp spray, you fumble trying to get the cap off, as he is upon you with his knife out you spray yourself in the face with wasp spray and pass out. You awake naked feeling violated and call the police. The police arrive and take your report, but before he departs he handcuffs you and takes you down to the station for booking for a felony violation of EPA regulations concerning the misuse of insecticides.

Some good ideas here I think.

I use the little dog idea because they are cheap to feed, easy to bathe, noisy as heck at the slightest provocation.

One not mentioned yet is some inexpensive (or as expensive as you want to go) electronic shooting muffs. Keep them by the bed and put them on first.

Amplified hearing allows you to stay in your bedroom and hear the bad guy(s) moving, talking, breathing in some cases so you are warned when they are close.

The thing that occurs when you touch off your 12ga, nice AR style rifle, 9mm (or any other) handgun in a confined area is a very loud noise that will ruin Beethoven for you forever.

I do mean permanently. As a bonus you may get tinnitus which is the cheery sounds of ringing in your ears at ALL times.

Amplified hearing protection is as much a defensive weapon as a hearing saver. It belongs next to your bright light (of which you have two there because 2 is 1 and 1 is none). Anyone with any low-light training knows exactly what that means.

When you need it, you will need a spare in case you drop, throw, lose or break your primary light. Seriously.

Consider pistol caliber rifles in any caliber (think of .22lr last) because they are powerful against man-sized predators and easy to shoot well. Much easier than a handgun is to shoot well. An inexpensive red dot sight will allow you to use focus on the target (which you will want to do anyway) and just put the dot where the bullet should go and press the trigger until you cannot see the target anymore.

Remember, you were in fear of your life or that of your family of innocents.

The best way to repel a home invasion is to get a border collie. They’ll intercept the intruders, tie them up, call 9/11 and deal with the police. You can snooze through the whole thing.

.40 cal beats wasp spray.

I guess I should describe my personal defense arrangements. I live in a rural area with no close neighbors. There are two entrances, both heavy duty metal doors with deadbolt locks.

Right beside my bed in the open is a Walther Model PP in .380. It and the spare mag right beside it are loaded with 90 grain HPs. I can reach it without even leaving the bed.

Even closer is a cluster of flashlights. The first one is a Leatherman, next is a Browning then six or seven other good ones, all having LED bulbs and all, even the cheapest is bright.

If I have a chance to sit up in bed I can reach a Browning HiPower with a Mec-Gar 15 round mag. Next to it is another Mec-Gar mag holding 20 rounds. They are both loaded with 115 gr Silvertips mainly because I got a good price on them years ago and they are about as good as any. In a bag in my bedroom are a dozen more mags some Mec-Gar, some original Browning 13 round mags and one a 30 round mag of unknown origins but it is a quality mag and works perfectly with all 30 rounds. These in the bag would probably never be used except in really odd situations.

Before a leave the bedroom is a Winchester Defender 12 gauge loaded with number 4 buckshot. Depending on what brand I use it will take 7 or 8 shells. Some brands of shells are longer than others. Because I have arthritis I added a plastick buttstock which also has a pistol grip. I find it much easier to handle with the pistol grip. I could take the rear stock off but that makes it unwieldy to me. Others say it is handy. It sure kicks without that butt stock.

In my other bedroom is Remington automatic which does not have a detacheable mag, but fully loaded with .22 lr high speed, it would be a fine weapon and it never fails, never has ever.

If I answer a door not really expecting trouble I always have a Walther model PP in .22LR in my hand. If for some reason I don’t have the little pistol, I have the aforementioned spear, swords, machetes, Khukri or black thorn.

If I am approached while I am outdoors I have a Start .40 cal. with two spare mags hidden where no one would ever suspect.

I am pretty much ready for anything up to maybe a dozen Ne-er do wells.
