(Reuters) - Nissan (7201.T) boss Carlos Ghosn is preparing to cut battery manufacturing, people familiar with the matter said, in a new reversal on electric cars that has reopened deep divisions with alliance partner Renault (RENA.PA).
The plan, which faces stiff resistance within the Japanese carmaker, would see U.S. and British production phased out and a reduced output of next-generation batteries concentrated at its domestic plant, two alliance sources told Reuters...

I think you didn’t read my comment. The power grid is not stressed at night, which is when nearly all electric car charging occurs.
Sure I did; I get your point, but you miss mine - being if the power stays out overnight, you’re SOL if you wanna drive your Leaf or Volt the next day.
Maybe for the Leaf, but not so for the Volt. It is an extended range electric vehicle, meaning after the 40-mile battery runs low, it automatically switches to gasoline mode.
In other words, when the battery is drained in a Volt, it turns into a regular gasoline car.
I saw my first Volt just a few days ago...parked in our area, so I gave it a walkaround; the front fender hatch was open, exposing the plug-in area. I’d always thought they were totally electric, so this explains why there was another little “door” where the gas usually goes.
