“But there is one vital element of the domestic violence dialogue that ignites torrents of unwarranted disapproval: an examination of the dynamic of the women who stay with, and even defend, their attackers.”

Awww, you know I thought the author was actually going to broach the taboo subject of female initiators of domestic violence, since it was Rice who got hit first.

And sometimes “initiating” is enough psychological abuse that a physical response is the only perceived option.

If you really want to ignite a torrent of disapproval, cite the mass of research (all serious population research, actually) that reveals women at least as likely and often more likely, to be the perpetrators of violence.

The automatic identification of the "male" as perp is a form of bigotry which has no basis in reality. Yet, much like man made global warming, it is an article of faith that resists all rationality and refuses to die.

"...since it was Rice who got hit first."
