Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas) said in an interview with the Washington Free Beacon that the hatred and bigotry he encountered when he was booed off the stage at a Middle Eastern Christian conference for defending Israel on Wednesday night was like nothing he has previously seen in his political career.
Ive certainly encountered audiences that disagreed with a particular point of view. But this virulent display of hatred and bigotry was remarkable, and considerably different from anything Ive previously encountered, Cruz said, just a few hours after his pro-Israel speech to the In Defense of Christians conference was drowned out by shouts and jeers from the audience.
The senator was booed off stage at the conference, which is aimed at raising awareness for the persecution of Middle Eastern Christians, after saying that Christians have no greater ally than Israel and calling on the audience to support the Jewish state.
The division and anti-Semitism expressed tonight by some of the crowd is not reflective of the teachings of Christ, and is in fact directly contrary to the tenets of Christianity, Cruz said.
In video posted by the Daily Caller, audience members can be heard shouting at Cruz during his keynote address.
I am saddened to see that some here, not everyone, but some here, are so consumed with hate, said Cruz, before he was interrupted with shouts of all of us! from the audience.
You speak for yourself! one participant yelled during the senators defense of Israel.

It seems more than likely these were CAIR members who infiltrated the conference. I mean, they invited Rob freakin’ Portman
Plants...expect to see more and more of them crop up anywhere there are serious conservative presidential contenders are having town hall meetings...we know why...
Infiltrators was my first thought.
At least he got some Jew haters to expose themselves. They were probably muslims posing as Christians planted there to disrupt. I can’t imagine true Christians hating Jews.
Muzzies trying to f things up, huh?
Thought so.
I think Arab Christians prefer Ba’athist regimes — pan-Arab nationalists who until recently kept the murderous enthusiasms of their Muslim subjects against Christians in check, but who, as Arab nationalists were and are also very anti-Israeli.
We threw out one such regime in Iraq for Bush’s demonstration project on creating a democratic republic (which at the time I supported, though I knew, as happened in the end, that it might not work), Obama idiotically (or maliciously) backed the “Arab spring” that overthrew the Egyptian regime, which if no longer formally Ba’athist since the passing of Nassar, was still in the same mold, and Obama was on the point of bombing another in Syria, after destabilizing it by diplomatically backing Islamist rebels. In each case, removing or harming the somewhat thuggish anti-Israeli, but non-Islamist, nationalist regime resulted in persecutions being unleashed against Christians unparalleled since the Armenian genocide.
I know that in our little family here I am in a minority, but I just can’t get behind Ted. I don’t think he is that bright and he’s not a leader. Yeah, at times he echos my beliefs but he’s that guy that when he talks I instinctively put my hand on my wallet. He stands little chance of being nominated and less of being elected. I dunno. Call it instinct, call it crazy if you will ... I am not a fan. I just don’t like him. And, no ... I have no one better atm and that scares me for the future of Conservatism.
It's what they do
It's ALL they do
and they won't stop
EVER!
I agree with you. But they should still recognize that Israel is not the enemy of the Christian.
Arabs vs Jews is way beyond Islam vs Judaism.
