I lost a very close friend that day, on flight 11 so yes, it’s all burned into my memory banks.
As I watched the tribute Bush said that the attack was on freedom, itself. It sure was, it gave us the patriot act and lost freedoms. Our freedoms weren’t, and aren’t defended.
He promised a jihad that was ineffective against our enemies. We have suffered many attacks since that fateful day.
I disagree that ‘’we’ve learned nothing’’. We’ve learned quite a lot, but the most important of all is that government can’t and shouldn’t be trusted. EVER.
Our founders knew that, but somewhere along the lines of our history, we the People, forgot it.
The question is, what can we, and should we do about it? And how?
We see the price of our lack of vigilance, and we are all counting the cost of freedom. None of us likes the cost.
I’m very sorry for your loss. What I meant is that a majority of voters voted in a POTUS who utterly rejected all that had happened between 9/11/01 and 2008. They did it again in 2012 with eyes open. We’ve learned nothing - bread and circuses - Obama will be gone and they’ll forget again.
Democracies as a habit drink from the Waters of Lethe.
