No way the Aussies will have their mates tied down to Obama’s rules-of-engagement.

Thank you. I noticed from reading the description of duties that the American Combat Engineers were to be used as infantry as needed.

I know of one instance where they actually were turned into infantry for a time.

I bet the same is true of those Aussie special forces engineers except even to a higher standard of training.

Exactly— How can he ask for troops from others when he won’t commit US troops? Or is he hoping they will say ‘no’ and use that as yet another excuse to do nothing?

The sad excuse for a President of the U.S. is afraid to send U.S. ground forces (might hurt his poll numbers) so he hopes and prays for ground forces from other countries which can be sacrificed with no political reprecussions in the U.S.

Fast forward one year: 20,000 Aussies killed and big, bad Obama smiles and says we have advanced a half mile ALL BECAUSE OF ME!

I had the opposite problem. I rarely drink and when I do I have one or two at most. Most of the time. But I was a young Australian naval officer visiting San Francisco and was offered repeated hospitality by a group of American officers who found the idea of an Australian sailor who didn’t drink like a fish difficult to believe. I don’t really remember most of that night...

The Aussies should tell him to forget it.

They should tell him that using much stronger language.

Why would any world leader trust Obama?

The Aussie SAS are similar to our special forces but on steroids from hell.

I guess in Obama’s mind I guess it is OK to put other countries “boots” on the ground as long as they are not our boots on the ground.

Charlie Beckwith’s time with the SAS in 1962 greatly influenced him, and he brought his experience back to Army Special Forces, and eventually got his Delta created.

“Charlie Beckwith’s time with the SAS in 1962 greatly influenced him, and he brought his experience back to Army Special Forces, and eventually got his Delta created.”

Colonel Beckwith had the vision but Delta is due in no small part to wrench turning & fine tuning by then civilian Dick Meadows. And they were both aided by a slew of like minded Troopers.

I believe Dick Meadows & Colonel Beckwith attended SAS qualification training together. Meadows as an enlisted man. They were the first US graduates.

SAS is indeed an interesting study, especially their WWII origin in North Africa. They remain Gentlemanly Pirates that revert to either type as necessary.
