Support is growing for former secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to take over as NFL commissioner following criticism of how the league handled the punishment of former Baltimore Ravens player Ray Rice.
The Ravens swiftly canceled Rices five-year contract and the NFL suspended him indefinitely on Tuesday, one day after video surfaced on TMZ.com showing the running back striking his now-wife in an Atlantic City, N.J., elevator. Before the video was made public, Rice had been suspended by the league for two games. The current NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell, later called the original punishment a mistake, writing in a letter last month to owners, I didnt get it right.
The NFL said it had only seen the new video on Monday.
Now, some are saying Condoleezza Rice who expressed an interest in the NFL job before should replace Goodell. A Tuesday editorial in The Washington Post wrote that the NFL is an institution in dire need of Rices help, with a blaring headline: Condi Rice: The one person who could save the NFL.
According to a 2002 story in The New York Times, [Rice] wants to be commissioner of the National Football League. She is serious. That's absolutely right,' she said, 'though not immediately and not before Paul Tagliabue is ready to step down. I want to say that for the record.
Social media has also been buzzing with calls for Goodell, the son of the late Sen. Charles Goodell (R-N.Y.), to step down in favor of Rice.

Thank you!
That supposedly happened in the summer of 2009. The allegations are being made now, late summer 2014.
Hey, if Anita Hill can get away with it,...

Rice is pro-abortion. Thus, any job that keeps her out of any public office is a good thing.
Bring her on - she knows and loves the game and its traditions, she brings a level of gravitas and credibility that no previous commissioner could claim, and Goodell has been a disaster - arbitrary and inconsistent player punishments, London games, nonsensical “heads up” rules, Thursday night games and talk of an 18-game regular season.
You’re absolutely right. There is a large difference in Govt jobs vs private scetor. lol - I’m for fewer govt jobs . ;o)
Exit visas may be imminent, eh Rodge? All that pandering to political correctness over the years doesn’t seem to count for much.
You’re in good company though. The GOPe has been pandering to all things anti-American for years as well. Rove and Preibus still haven’t figured it out yet.
Yeah, just like Colin Powell.
if O can be Prezident, Rice can be in charge of football
Kakistocracy Maximallus.
The Post has been trying to destroy any semblance of manhood in America, especially the NFL. So now they want to "help" by suggesting a way-too-tightly-wound thinks-she-knows-better-than-anybody Condi Rice to save them?
Riiiight.
Yeah, she really took it to the Norks...
Um, yeah, and she really got it right in pushing land-for-peace with Israel...
And obviously she set up a stable government in Iraq...
Then there was September 11, 2001, when Rice was scheduled to outline a new national security policy that included missile defense as a cornerstone and played down the threat of stateless terrorism!!
Oh, wait.
I'm pretty sure we're talking about two different people here.
Nope. Her voice almost trembles with tension when she talks; nor did she listen to intelligence people when they tried to warn her about AQ well before 9-11.
Her first act would be to order all teams playing the Browns to lose by scores of 536-0 and immediately declare them winners of the Super Bowl to be played next year.
That was my prediction early yesterday! I think it will happen.
Question: Do the Ravens have to pay the rest of Ray Rice’s contract, or did they cut him loose without paying him any money? Seems to me that they would have to pay him, especially since his initial punishment (the one before this ‘second video’ surfaced) was only a two-game suspension. Anybody have any insight on this?
