Reference article about fomites and spread of viruses in offic enclosed environments. Long technical article. Pertains to enteric and Norovirus among others.
Short version via MailOnline available here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2748351/Why-really-need-wash-hands-work-Infections-spread-office-door-handle-half-workforce-just-two-HOURS.html
(Snip)
Study found between 40 and 60 per cent of office contaminated in two hours
Pushing buttons in lifts and touching phones spread infection quickest
Disinfectant wipes and regularly washing hands is best way to kill germs
Infections can spread from an office door handle to half the workforce in just two hours, new research has found.
Using tracer viruses, a study found as much as 60 per cent of workers in the building carried the bug planted after 120 minutes....
Pertains to current Enterovirus epidemic and Ebola epidemic.
Posting reference article documenting significance of fomites in spread of viral diseases and the speed with which viral transmission spreads.
Useful for pounding sense into doubting Thomases....well, maybe.

Well, just the title of this article sent me to the dictionary.
Rare respiratory disease hits E. TN

Bttt
A fomite can make you vomite.
I dread going to the doctor or hospital, all the surfaces are contaminated. I keep my purse on my lap in the waiting room. And I certainly take my own reading material I can slip in my purse. I keep Clorox wipes in the car.
They stick up signs about strong perfumes, colognes, but forget those strong body washes and put out germ/virus laden magazines, but no Cough mask for those coughing and sneezing. DUMB. I’ve had to move away for a person who took a bath in the smelly stuff. I don’t need my sinuses plugged up from your need to smell your to strong scents.
Medical places are a big germ/virus pick up place.
This new respiratory virus that is fast spreading in children along with a new Meningitis out break in new born I bet we can trace back to the illegal sick kids.
Going to get to the point we have to wear disposable gloves.
LOL...we gets edjumacated here.
FR doesn't handle long titles, like the MailOnline article that caught my eye:
Why-really-need-wash-hands-work-Infections-spread-office-door-handle-half-workforce-just-two-HOURS
But the Mail article cited the original source with real info so I used that.
Where else can you get such a two-fer, semi-literate pop news and serious tech article, all in one thread. ?
My husband had a heart transplant, so knowing germs is our life. His transplant team said the best defense against germs is washing hands with hot soapy water for at least 20 seconds, nothing is better.
Noticed that there was no mention of the most likely source of the Enterovirus68 in the linked article you posted.
Obama’s latino children coming to a neighborhood to you.
Thanks for the link.
LOL! Truth in that.
Noticed an odd thing to an ER visit months ago. There was no hand sanitizer in the admitting/waiting area. But there were wall mounted dispensers past the doors to the ER. I refuse to sit there.
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
fomite bing
The moment you notice a sore throat beginning, put an eye dropper of hydrogen peroxide in each ear for two minutes. I haven’t had a cold of lung infection of any sort in decades.
