Maybe Saddam had to go. But we should have left it over to the Iraqi Army. Nation building was a mistake.

Bush's father was better at this kind of thing. He wasn't afraid of using military force. But he knew that we cannot occupy a nation (we still had scars from Vietnam at that time).

Lots of other nations think they can occupy nations. They typically change the identity and character of that nation while doing it, though.
