Woman claims Arizona hotel employee raped her; 2 Legislators now looking to strengthen laws

Should hotels hire registered sex offenders?

That's the question two Arizona state legislators are considering after two women claimed they were raped by a night clerk who used a master key to enter their hotel rooms.

The purported assaults took place at two different Mesa hotels, the first in 2011 at the Best Western Superstition Springs Inn; the second, a year later at the Marriot Fairfield Inn and Suites.

Attorneys for the women say the clerk in question was fired from Best Western before being hired later by Marriot-Fairfield. They have filed suit against both hospitality giants saying they failed to conduct background searches which would have revealed the alleged attacker was a level three registered sex offender in Arizona and Illinois.

If the man is still breathing, our justice system has failed.

You mean, he was just trying to provide a “turn down” service, and asked the women, “Ju wants fresca sheets on yer bed?”

If he was an “undocumented immigrant” ju, I mean, you can be sure he’s back home now waiting for the heat to die down.

This article, from April 2013, seems to be about the same clerk:

If the clerk is a convicted felon, why not identify him?

I don’t see how a new law does anything useful. The hotel is already going to pay a fortune in a civil suit for failing their due diligence and that ought to be plenty of incentive. More than some silly law.

Though now that I think about it, the state probably restricts employers from asking those kind of questions.

“If the man is still breathing, our justice system has failed.”

Arizona is a “constitutional carry” state. The guy should be long dead. And why didn’t these women use the mechanical door bar that prevents the door from being opened more than an inch or so?

Sex offenders shouldn’t even be able to buy groceries, let alone get jobs. They should be dead.

That is a very stupid thing to do, hire a sex offender to work in a hotel. Sex offenders need to work in warehouses or someplace like that.

Do they hire thieves to work in hotels? I hope not!

People make a hotel their home for a night or several nights. There’s a lot of trust put in the staff of a hotel. I’m very surprised that these big hotel chains screwed up like this.

Now they are going to pay, but that is not the point.

“Sex offenders need to work in warehouses or someplace like that.”....

What ever happened to “Chain Gangs”? Now that’s “productive work”.
