A new poll released Sunday morning shows U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell opening up a clear lead over Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes in Kentuckys U.S. Senate race.
An NBC News/Marist poll shows McConnells strongest positioning yet. His 8-point lead among likely voters, 47 percent to 39 percent, is outside the polls margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points. Libertarian candidate David Patterson pulled 8 percent.
Chuck Todd, moderating his first episode of Meet the Press on Sunday, noted the success Grimes has had fundraising when he announced the new numbers.
In red-state Kentucky, Alison Grimes, a Democrat, tons of money, shes behind eight, Todd said. Not looking very good for her.
McConnells advantage is up significantly from the deadlocked race the same poll found in May when McConnell and Grimes were essentially tied with McConnell nominally leading 46 percent to 45 percent among registered voters.
The most recent poll was conducted between Sept. 2-4, indicating that recent stumbles like the resignation of his campaign manager and the release of a secret recording of McConnell speaking to a Koch brothers retreat have not yet had a detrimental effect on the senators re-election efforts.
There also is evidence to suggest that Grimes national party identification, combined with a relentless effort by McConnell and his allies to tie Grimes to President Barack Obama, has taken its toll on the Democratic challenger.
The poll found that Obamas approval rating in Kentucky is a woeful 31 percent.
Meanwhile, an online poll released by CBS News/New York Times/YouGov shows McConnell leading Grimes 47 percent to 42 percent.
Two other polls released in the last week also show McConnell with a small lead.

So how long do you expect it to take for y'all rape victims to found a viable Third Party?
Remember, the clock is ticking. The more time the 'Rats have to embed their policies into US society, the more gimme voters will exist, and the harder it will be stop America from becoming Argentina. The first priority must be to stop the decay. The ultimate cure can come later.
You just want to blow the cycle so you can feel good about yourself!
Remember, principals in the voting booth are for children!!
Hey, skink, what happened to your center tags?
Majority Leader Reid congratulates you on your service to the Cause of Social Progress!
McConnell and the GOP Ruling Class killed their party by going to war on their base. They even gleefully exclaimed they planned to crush us wherever they found us and would work to ensure we never had a single candidate able to run in the general elections.
So it figures when the demographics they think will vote for them end up voting Democrat, the Party Hacks come out to try and shame Conservatives into ‘holding their noses’ and vote for the very people who want them out of their party and declared war upon.
I say let the GOP die the death that their Ruling Class engineered for it. There is no fixing Washington from the very system the Beast has corrupted for itself.
Even if there were no difference between Reid and McConnell, which is not the case, it would still make a huge difference whether the Majority Leader is an R or a D.
We need an actual Second Party to the UniParty that exists in D.C. now before we can look for a third party. But Party politics is moot now anyway so it's a useless hypothesis.
Remember, the clock is ticking.
The Rockefeller Republicrats have been scaring us with that line since the election in 1988. All they have done is run up the debt and play good-cop, bad cop with the Democrats while the nation was hauled to the Left.
The more time the 'Rats have to embed their policies into US society, the more gimme voters will exist, and the harder it will be stop America from becoming Argentina.
You're 20 years too late with that warning.
The first priority must be to stop the decay.
McConnell losing is a great first step in that direction. But party politics is not going to stop what we have been transformed into. History is pretty clear on that.
The ultimate cure can come later.
Not gonna happen unless we cut out the entire tumor that is D.C and start over.
You just want to blow the cycle so you can feel good about yourself!
It has nothing to do with 'feeling good'. It has everything to do with saving our ideology from extinction. I want the guy who declared war on Conservatives and vowed to 'crush us' wherever he found us to be defeated by ANY and ALL means. I do not care if he loses to an Obama stooge. At least she cannot pretend to be our leader. We know what side she is on.
Remember, principals in the voting booth are for children!!
Thank God our Founders did not fall for that Satanic lie, and neither will true Conservatives fall for it.
You preach the lies of Satan by instructing Conservatives to 'leave their principles at home' and 'hold their nose' and vote for the guy who vowed to crush them.
I think you can get stuffed. McConnell wanted a war on his base - he got one, and we want him gone, by any means.
My point is that the problem remains - McConnell is not the solution, nor is gop control of the senate.
We had our shot in the primary. Now we have to vote for him. Or throw the republic away.
And Grimes is? (referring to part of the solution)
Dirty Harry has got to go!
I may not vote for senate in Kansas. I was for Roberts at one time then switched to Wolf in the primaries. With Mississippi and Roberts idiotness in not debating Dr. Wolf, I turned on him. I was eager to vote for the Independent. Now all the B.S. happens.
The idiot Democrat quit and endorsed the Independent Greg Orman. Now the left is trying to line up behind Orman for some unknown reason. It is a fing mess. I don’t know if it is bad or good that the Democrat candidate Chad Taylor was forced into staying on the ballot. Getting mixed messages.
And confused on what went on for Taylor to endorsed Orman.
If Orman on the right side or not? The democrats sure seem invested in Orman winning now.
Pissed the f off me. So now I am probably skipping the vote for Senate.
Correction: IS Orman on the right side or not? The democrats sure seem invested in Orman winning now.
I vote for throw the republic away. Here in Kansas I am not liking anyone running so not voting.
