Not sure what type of a storage yard but it seems strange that there wouldn’t be
some kind of camera facilities in use with this type equipment being stored.

I have indeed been bad, but not in the stealing property department.

One of my favorite ports of call was Hong Kong (pre-china take over). There was a lot of trafficking in stolen high end cars at that time. An article in the Hong Kong Times described one of the incidents. The wife of an ambassador called the phone in her car wondering where it was. The thief answered and told her he was on a speed boat and that it was a very nice car and he thanked her for it.

The article went on to explain how the car thief crews were set up. There was a break in artist, a specialist driver,
and then the high speed boat crew.

One calm dark night departing Hong Kong we had one of those speed boats fly past us. There was no target on radar because he was close and a poor target but I did pick up his wake on the screen. He was faster than the hydrofoils that cruise those waters by quite a bit.

Hong Kong also had one of the highest Rolls Royce concentrations in the world at that time.

Mine is an aluminum rowboat and it doesn’t cost me a dime leaning against the woodpile.

Mine resides in a duffle bag with the waders and fins.......

It says it’s from a paper in San Bernardino. Regarding the plane in Iran, there is an FR posting listed on the right.

Yeah, a dry run is probably a good explanation.

Also, did you see that 3 $$million-dollar boats have been stolen from a storage place in San Bernardino ..??

Kinda makes me wonder if they’re planning on hitting General Atomics in Torrey Pines (which ISIS stated it planned to do).

Not much payload in a cigarette boat? Really? I guess it was just fairy tales how they were used to haul tons of dope from the 1970s on.

Not hard to resell at all. But the main prize are the engines. A typical 250 hp outboard motor today is worth 10-20 grand and they are very easy to resell into the gray market.

A typical 40’ go-fast can haul a ton of explosives at 50+ mph. With a jihadist driver, could wait outside of Miami or Palm Beach, then attack a cruise ship. The explosion would rip open the ship and cause it to capsize and sink in minutes. Thousands of decadent Western tourists would drown. Very very simple operation. Guaranteed results.

What are the odds of the trying to pull a USS Cole redux?

In five days those boats could be in the water anywhere in the US.

Yes, it could just be theft to sell to overseas markets, or perhaps they were “acquired” for drug running. A friend of mine used to stay in the Florida Keys years ago and would hear go-fast boats leaving in the middle of the night. Obviously they were not out sightseeing. lol

Yes, I’ve spent a lot of time on the water.

I don’t know the odds, but the operation would be very, very easy. All they would need is a go-fast boat, and a ton of ANFO with a small kicker charge of a few blasting caps, industrial M-80s etc.

Not likely they would use these stolen boats. They would buy an old go-fast for cash, and buy used outboard motors for cash. Almost no signature. Three 250 hp motors across the back, a very typical package.

Lurk near Miami, Palm Beach or San Diego. A cruise ship on the horizon is dead easy to spot, and could not defend itself against a “Cole” type attack by a go-fast laden with explosives. The explosives would rip open the ship and cause it to sink in minutes.

Very very low hanging fruit. I see no possible defense, if the jihadists have already prepared boats and have the ANFO ingredients.

Not a highly effective choice for an attack craft, I’d think.

Boat thefts are not uncommon, Florida then California having the highest indidents of theft.

These were particularly easy since they were trailered and all the thieves had to do was pull their truck up, hook up the trailer hitch and take off.....

Add a new paint job and they'll likely go up for sale to some unsuspecting buyer or be kept for personal use by the thieves......

A second option might be that they'll be used to run drugs .....

"planning on hitting General Atomics in Torrey Pines which Isis stated they planned to do"

I didn't know about this place -General Atomics.

I have made several visits to the hiking trails and beach at Torrey Pines . Beautiful area FYI.

As I recall the cliffs overlook the ocean and are quite steep. That could make getting to the facility via ocean landing difficult, but, it could provide cover too.

Either way, the authorities need to be on alert, as you have said.

I'm wondering- Did ISIS threaten General Atomics specifically, or just places like it in general?
