RENO, Nev. Tesla Motors has chosen Nevada as the site for a massive, $5 billion factory that will pump out batteries for a new generation of electric cars, a person familiar with the company's plans said Wednesday.
The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because no official announcement had been made, said work would soon resume at an industrial park outside Reno.
Four other states -- California, Texas, Arizona and New Mexico -- were vying for the project and the estimated 6,500 jobs it will bring.

Does Dingy Harry happen to own any land near the plant site?
Fine, New Mexico has a history of being screwed in deals like this.
Harry Reid is smiling! I didn’t expect Texas because Musk is a Baraqqi partisan. And California is way too expensive.
Have fun with the UAW.
Here’s my prediction. They’re going to get a huge loan and then go (very profitably) bankrupt. The taxpayers will take it in the rump one more time.
California had put itself out of the running with the high taxation costs and EPA costs and labor union costs.
I’d bet the farm Dingy Harry’s fingers are in this up to his elbows.
Seriously: Is anyone surprised?
Yawn.
Personally thought it was a shoe-in for Nevada with Musk so close to the DemocRATS. He’s one of ‘em, so Harry Reid wins again. Let’s not allow him to win in November.
Amen! He's about as bad as 0bama/Holder.
Follow the money. Want to take bets on how much taxpayer money will be stolen before they go belly-up?
And then the Chinese will swoop in to buy the abandoned facility.
Oh, and Musk will be back with another rentseeking mega-project.
I smell a Rat.
A dirty Rat.
A made Rat.
Reno makes sense. Tesla can make the batteries in Reno and truck them over to the Bay Area where the Tesla assembly plant is located. Batteries are quite heavy. I doubt NM, AZ or TX had much of a chance due to transportation costs. As for California, geographically it is the best location but financially, it would cost a good deal more to make the batteries in CA then in NV. Cheaper to make them in NV and truck them across I80 to the CA assembly plant.
You could be right, because I haven’t seen evidence that electric cars are in such demand that money can be made by building such a plant.
Harry’s Vegas, not Reno. Northern and southern Nevada are like two different states. Tesla, and Amazon.com before them, like the Reno area for its business-friendly climate. No state income tax wins ‘em over as well.
Hmm, wonder if they’ll need any process engineers?????
Only if you swear allegiance to Caliph Baraq and his successor Calipha Warren.
