Not sure if they are talking about official “service dogs”
or just “plain old dogs”...
(I know I might take some grief for that)
Soldiers have always had a tendency to adopt pets
to help them wile away some of the idle hours.
My nephew’s unit in Iraq had a pet fox.
I don’t know what happened to him after they pulled out.
You just can’t bring back every single animal
that a unit has adopted or become attached to.
I’ll be back in a bit,
Dixie dog is laying here beside me wanting her nightly belly rub.

They were speaking specifically about military working dogs, not strays.
