Conflicting Signals? Obama vows to ‘destroy’ ISIS, make it ‘manageable’

President Obama sent seemingly conflicting signals Wednesday about his ultimate goal in the fight against the Islamic State, saying at a press conference in Europe that the aim is to "degrade and destroy" the terror group -- but moments later, claiming he wants to make it a "manageable problem."

The president spoke as lawmakers on Capitol Hill and others urge the White House and Pentagon to pursue a tough approach against the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL.

Those calls mounted after the group released another video showing the execution of an American journalist; the White House on Wednesday confirmed that video as authentic.

Speaking in Estonia during a visit to Europe, Obama at first took a hard line. He condemned the execution as "horrific" and "barbaric" and vowed "justice will be served."

Assad tortured and killed too many children to be supported.

Yep, next we will learn of BOLD new steps by Eric Holder to issue an arrest warrant and vow to hold a fair trial in NYC.

I agree, but I would have included others, as well. According to reports, the PDB identified this threat over 1 year ago. The best thing would have been a summit early on with regional leaders of Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, etc....

Tell them to take care of this problem collectively and completely. Offer them intel and material support. Give them a timeline with the understanding if they don't solve it, we will and they won't like our solution.

Bush once said you're either with us or with the terrorists. It's past time we held nations in that region to account on that.

This is, of course, all wishful thinking on my part.

So if you had a junk yard, you would not get a dog that had bit anyone.

Or shoot a gun that had ever killed anyone when confronted with someone who wants to kill YOU.

That is why we will fail.

As they saying goes, there is the world that should be, that you wish it was and the world as it really is.

Following your principles, we never would have joined up with Stalin to fight Hitler and you would be a German citizen today, unless you are a Jew in which case you would not even exist.

We are not in a position to be picky about our choices.

This is going to last a long time. We either support someone who is already there and knows all of the inside workings, or we have to put 500,000 troops over there for 50 years.

The idea that we have approached the age of clean wars where one can sit at his computer and beat the enemy into submission without hurting anyone except the bad guys is a false idea.
