Millennials Shifting to the Right
Accuracy in Academia ^ | September 2, 2014 | Malcolm A. Kline

Posted on 09/03/2014 6:08:01 AM PDT by Academiadotorg

The so-called millennial generation, those in the 18-29 year-old age bracket, helped keep President Obama into the White House. “If only those over the age of 30 had voted, Romney would have won,” Emily Ekins, who directs polling for the Reason Foundation, said at the blogger’s briefing at the Heritage Foundation on August 26, 2014. prolife rally

Nevertheless, surveys that try to track their mood swings border on the superficial. “Why do millennials like socialism?” Ekins asks. “Because they don’t know what it is.”

Yet and still, what they have seen of big government, they increasingly do not like. Ekins notes that during the Obama years, the percentage of millennials who want a large government with more services has gone from seven out of ten to 54 percent.

Similarly, over that same time period, the percentage of millennials who think government is inefficient has gone from 42 percent to 66 percent.

Ekins found in a recent poll that, perhaps not too surprisingly, millennials have a better image of themselves than those over 30. For example, three-quarters of millennials think they have a good work ethic but only half of those surveyed over 30 agree. Nonetheless, Ekins wrote, “ Interestingly, Americans under 30 are as likely as those over 30 to say 18-29 year olds are selfish (71%).”

“Why do millennials like socialism?” Ekins asks. “Because they don’t know what it is.” Umm.. no comment necessary.

For anyone to like socialism is to believe that he will be on the receiving end. Ask the question, "do you want to pay for socialism"? and see a different result.

Perhaps a more accurate way to put it is, the information wars where the Truth like Conservative is routinely clobbered in the Schools and News Media.

Young kids are taught to trust their teachers and what is told them in the media for not only do they have no alternative, failure to comply results in punitive academic measure such as poor grades and explication from school. To make matters words most of the lies there sold about the world are in many respects filled with half truths just enough to be believable but not enough to be the whole truth.

So it is only natural that they believe the lies they are told about leftism and environmentalism in school and their favor TV shows(MTV, and Jon Steward). It is not until they go out and see for themselves in the real world that they even have the opportunity to realize what their teacher in the class room or on TV(John Steward) was not true after all.

The smart ones will recognize that even if they don’t admit it out of miss-placed embarrassment for having been taken for a fool. The dimwitted and stubborn ones will cling to them lies until the day they die.

The bottom line is, while our kids get to see the inherit incompetent & wast of big government, they have never seen the true evil of Social and communism. What they know of that is only stories from distant lands filtered by ideological lairs no more honest than the ones who had raised them in schools or on TV.

So how could they know? The only thing we as conservative can do to convince them is to encourage them to run the experiment themselves and see if they can’t organize a collective among each other and not have it turn into a horrible self-destructive and abusive wast. If they can’t do it, and we can’t do it, nobody can do it on any large scale.

The other approach is to get the cultural imagination to make the logical leap from failures of big government to the even larger failures of the larger socialist government. When you scale up a state you only get less accountability and larger functionality and efficiency problems.

All Government can ever do is approach a problem like the military, they pick the people they ‘think’ will know best, and those people otherwise unaccountable by competition or any knowledge of what something should or could cost are left to spend as much time and resources as they want to solve the problem.

The Honest bureaucrats will try to do it as efficiency as they know how, but most will simply milk it, taking their time and our money until it becomes too absurdly obvious and large a wast to be ignored. A point that is always a fraction of that Government’s overall spending, thus the larger the government the larger the wast threshold in each area.

This is the nature of management thou elections, your control is limited to 2 options on generally 1 of thousands of questions all but ignoring all the other issues. Even if the majority knew how to effectively manage any given business they couldn’t in a government of hundreds.

I don’t see it that way at all. I do think he wants to change some longstanding GOP positions, like when and where to intervene internationally, but otherwise it looks to me like he’s just looking for some common ground with groups that the GOP has too much of a tendency to just write off as unreachable.

The positions he wants to move left on are fundamental issues like abortion and marriage, and immigration, and yes, as you point out, national defense.

“I think that the Republican Party, in order to get bigger, will have to agree to disagree on social issues,” Paul advised. “The Republican Party is not going to give up on having quite a few people who do believe in traditional marriage. But the Republican Party also has to find a place for young people and others who don’t want to be festooned by those issues.”

As for the millennial shift to the right, I'm starting to see a split there between those older or younger than 24. Those 24-30 bought the Obama brainwashing and still do. Those 18-24 see some damn politician fubarring the country and wonder what their older siblings see in them.

Getting out of you Mummy's basement and having to work a real job tends to help young adults grow into real adults rather fast.

Getting married and shortly being pregnant with twins did it for me.
