Thank you that is what I have been wondering about.
Electric cars are close to 100 efficient. Gasoline cars are only about 30% efficient. Most of the energy is given off as heat that goes out the tailpipe or radiator.
did they really think it would always be “free”?
Thanks - and I don't disagree with anything in the article, although the emphasis is a bit weird, which basically just seems to be to say that it's important to understand your electric bill if you're interested in figuring out the electric cost of operating an electric car. Electric rates can vary pretty significantly depending on a number of things.
BTW, re: Hawaii, I agree with the author that it has far and away the highest electric rates in the country, but he doesn't point out that it also has the highest gasoline prices. So the bottom line is that Hawaii is an expensive place to get around no matter how you want to do it.

They claimed to have run a long-distance evaluation of the Tesla, something like 20,000 miles, and they said (indirectly) that it is a PIECE OF JUNK.
Now we all know that can’t be true, as President Obama has told us it is the car of the future - so I suspect that Edmunds SABOTAGED their vehicle, causing it to destroy tires at 10,000 miles and go through THREE DRIVETRAINS.
...otherwise I would have to believe that our president and the Democrats are not being forthright with us. LOL.
