Kerry, is that you?
At a minimum the Kurds neew a few squads of US Air Force ground controllers. The notion that we could do effective air strikes for long without eyes on the ground speaking english is silly. Someplace along the way we’ll see a pic of a guy with a radio pack riding a camel up the Tigris river.
lol. Wrapped in a prayer rug no doubt.
IIRC that's exactly what Clinton did in Kosovo. The targets were designated by other high flying aircraft, and when evasive manoeuvers occurred due to AA missile launches the target lock was lost and the bombs went into free fall. This added to the civilian casualties.
Again, Clinton limited “boots on the ground”.
As an aside, we also destroyed a lot of dummy tanks from 30,000 ft.
You’ve gotta bury them with pig organs first.
I doubt the Iraqis retook the Mosul dam all by themselves.
I suppose the less we here about that critical objective the better — but the quiet leads me to believe that our guys were very much involved.
Them’s the guys. Well stated.
Colonel, USAFR
I dunno, maybe it’s just me but it seems like IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A HELL OF A LOT ****IN’ EASIER TO JUST LEAVE A FEW ****IN’ OCCUPATION TROOPS OVER THERE THEN WE WOULDN’T BE GETTING INTO A THIRD ****IN’ IRAQ WAR AND I... I...
I need a beer.
You heard what the Secretary of the Navy said, right? He said the books the SEALS are writing are so poorly written that he’s going to start requiring Advanced Writing Classes (AWC) for all SEALS right after BUDS training. You get through BUDS and you’re going to have to pass AWC.
You'd better have two...;0)
The other distinct possibility is that Zero doesn't know authorizing "air operations" usually entails authorizing forward air observers and their security teams.
Or it's another NATO member trained with the US for air ops (like the Germans or Brits) fulfilling that role.
Taking prisoners is very important (as I learned from talking to NVA/VC POWS and defectors in SVN and Cambodia).
The hardcore Islamists won’t talk but a little waterboarding in pig piss might change their minds. If not, the desert hides a lot of secrets and bodies.
Kill a few of the most hardcore, in ways to be determined by the creativity of the human mind, and do it in front of the other prisoners. That might open up a few mouths.
The American and German Special Forces aren’t in Iraq to play with themselves. They are there to fight and destroy the enemy and they are doing just that.
If there are any pussies around, they are not in our military forces (though many of their leaders are ball-less pukes - esp. Dempsey). The pussies are in the White House and JCS and Secretaries of the military departments.
Comments about FACS and ground spotters are not only correct, but logical. They are also great moral boosters to not only the Pesh Merga but also the Iraqi forces (who are not stupid, just too often poorly led).
What you might be seeing, at least on a regional level, is a new coalition of traditional Iraqi forces and the Pesh Merga, with, perhaps, some of the Shiite militias, that will temporarily transcend individual group interests.
In a real dream world, they would be the beginning of a new Iraqi identity, one that transcends tribal, ethnic and/or religious identities. I know that this is nor going to happen on a large scale, but perhaps locally, we are seeing something new arise out of this Obama/Amaliki fiasco.
One can hope, but still kill the bastards in the meantime.
Secy of the Navy Mabus is the biggest idiot and pussy of all our of military department secretaries. He’s allowing our Navy to get down to its lowest ship level in over 50 years, and not saying a word of protest.
He is the PROBLEM, not part of the solution.
They should have learned to write before they even got out of high school. I used to teach junior-level college students. Writing case studies was an important part of the class. I was appalled to find they couldn't write, even at the junior level. Not only should they have learned to write before they entered my class, they should have learned to write before they left high school.
Snort. Most of my interactions with SEALS over the years were when sharing information. Almost every one had superb writing skills, very advanced vocabularies and were highly intelligent.
Compare that to several fairly high ranking officers I dealt with that - were frauds. One Navy Commander couldn’t write at a fourth grade level.
I can’t claim the honor of having met many SEALs, but every special ops guy I’ve known was highly, highly intelligent.
Oh, they are. I was joking a bit.
It was a joke because of the books some SEALS have written. They can write and I didn’t think anyone take it the wrong way.
Kudo’s to this reporter for getting his or her behind out on the front lines where the bullets are flying in order to tell us what is really going on. Lord knows our government will never tell us the truth.
That said, I only want to know that information that our troops say does not put them in jeopardy!
