Catapang means, roughly “the brave”.
That’s just his name. Typical descriptive Tagalog name.
Some Filipinos retain the old native names, generally the descendants of landowners that actually had recorded names. The rest have Spanish names that were assigned by decree.

I totally agree...it's not often now-a-days to have someone SEE the right path and TAKE it... Everyone seems full of fear of the left.. Political correctness is killing us....

As someone who spent time in the Philippines, I find the name of the general to be quite fitting for his character.

The word “tapang” in Ca-tapang, means BRAVE in Tagalog.
