Rove's problem is that he thinks he can play identity politics. That is based upon splitting the electorate into different groups and having a message for each one. "Message"= giving them something. There is no way republicans will ever throw in as many giveaways as the democrats. Republicans do well when they have one message and strip away the disaffected union worker, the traditional democrat, the middle class moderate who can't afford to send a kid to college.

My inlaws were lifelong democrats until Reagan, and they never went back. There are people out there that can be converted. Not by promising them a new government program! but by creating an environment where the economy can grow and the middle class can thrive again.

Rove should know better. The identity politics of pandering won't work. We can't out democrat the Democrats nor is it a desirable thing to do if we could.
