Despite the agreement and the officers word from the Russian commander, there was no withdrawal corridor for the Ukrainian troops encircled near Ilovajsk. As the Ukrainians started the withdrawal, the Russian troops opened fire regardless of the fact that there were Russian POWs in the column, deputy Dnipropetrovsk governor Boris Filatov wrote in Facebook, referring to those Ukrainian soldiers who managed to escape.

It’s possible, the Soviets do this kind of thing.
I can’t see the Ukrainians risking further aggression unnecessarily.
Part of the neo-soviet empire that Putin’s building is to be a strong leader who inculcates cruelty in his people. He wants them to be without pity (a Christian value) and to build his empire on the bodies of Russia’s peaceful and weak neighbors.
What are you talking about, what brought that up?
Typical MO for Russians.
Also... I’m here in Poland (and Germany) expanding my business. The Poles are very nervous here in Warsaw. We all know we can’t count on Obama. Obama threw this part of the world to the bear as one of his first acts as president. And I guarantee you not one single soviet fears anything coming from the Obama [pbuh].
My prediction is Putin takes over Gdansk for the ports neighboring Russian territory. It will be the same as Georgia. Trainloads of blank Russian passports will be dumped on the city, a few speznaz will launch a few mortars across the border, and Putin will invade to protect the poor Russian citizens from the big bad Poles.
And to the Obamatons. THIS is what happens with the American influence vacuum. Thugs will step in and fill the void.
Six hundred paratroopers from the 173rd Airborne are currently in Poland, in October they will be replaced by 600 soldiers from the 1st Cav.

I certainly hope you are mistaken. If Putin invades Poland and NATO does nothing to stop this advance, it will, effectively, mark the end of this alliance.
Still, I really cannot say that I am at all certain that this will not occur...
It is the spirit of Stalin at work.
The way I originally read the article, it sounded as though the Russians were blaming Ukrainians for firing upon Russian prisoners.
I still don’t get it, how is that relevant to your post 3?
The Russians have a long history of shooting their own men who get captured as “traitors”.
There have been videos and pictures of Russians encouraging people to beat up prisoners! AT least one a female civilian
In one of the most shameful and poorly known episodes of our history, the US and the UK transported Russians gathered up in Europe after WWII back to Russia. The deal was made with Stalin to bring them back. Many of these same people were shot within hearing distance of the US and British ships that had transported them. It’s name was appropriate - Operation Keelhaul.
Putin’s inner KGB bitch is about to come out. Some will sing his praise as he, in their mind, is showing he’s a STRONG leader. He’s duped a lot of people. But as a second generation secret policeman, Putin’s conscience is obviously amoral at best.
Knowing how the Soviets would treat them, many U.S. commanders refused to give up their Soviet POWs. Patton, I believe, was one such commander.
I knew a Red Army veteran who was captured on the Eastern Front early in the war and spent most of WW II in a POW camp in Austria -- where he was treated very well. As the end of the war approached, he walked away from the camp and went west as fast as he could; he knew what would happen to him if he fell back into Soviet hands.
He surrendered to a unit in Patton's command, where he was kept from the Soviets in the immediate post-war. Eventually, he gained refugee status and was allowed into the US.
He loved the US with a greater passion than anybody I've ever known.
Check out Operation Keelhaul on the web. The story is out there. It’s a sad chapter in our history.
All of this leads to a curious 2016 election. The Democrats won’t be able to funnel up a guy (or gal) to meet what the public wants in terms of fixing this perception across the globe. And about half the Republican possible candidates are mostly losers who don’t fit the bill.
I'm familiar with it.
