Faced with deepening crises in the Middle East and Ukraine, President Barack Obama is putting the brakes on the notion that American military power can solve either conflict.
While that stance is in keeping with Obamas long-standing aversion to military entanglements, it comes at a time when the effectiveness of his preferred options is being challenged and there are indications that some in the administration are ready to take more robust actions. [ ]
During a news conference at the White House, Obama warned that Russia likely will face more Western penalties because of its continued provocations. But he offered no indication that he was considering anything outside the realm of sanctions and explicitly ruled out the prospect of U.S. military intervention. We are not taking military action to solve the Ukrainian problem, Obama said.

There is something much greater being thrown out of the window than Ukraine here. Ukraine was the country with 3rd largest nuclear arsenal in the world and they believed American promises and gave the nukes away.
Obama is certain to find a small print excusing him doing nothing, but besides the other things - how likely are other countries to give up their nuclear ambitions now that Ukraine is being invaded by Russia?
Actually I saw another FReeper use it, can’t remember who it was. I liked it so I stole it too. Be my guest.
DHS.
‘nuff said.
I still call him Obammy. Its a hat tip to Al Jolson....
I have another name for him that I use around the house when I see him on TV. Would get zotted on FR if I used it here.
The only people he really wants to destroy are conservatives in this country who oppose his insane agenda.
Obama deliberately let a Golden Opportunity slip away. After the Bush surge when chaos was contained, the US regardless of how the Maliki government felt, we should have imposed an Iraqi Marshall Plan, just like in Europe and Japan after WW2, we should have forced a status of forces agreement and using their oil money rebuilt the country and shared the wealth among Shia, Sunni and Kurds. We should have forced an inclusive government. In 2007 after 3 years we finally turned the Sunnis to our side and defeated the terrorists, only to have Maliki turn against the Sunnis with a non inclusive government.
At this point, their is no solution. The Sunnis easily turn towards ISIS because the fact is ISIS are Sunnis too. Their is a Sunni/Shia war now. Neither side can be trusted. As a matter of fact, Israel is our only friend in the Middle East and Obama sheets all over them.
We had a chance to have peace but Obama blew it. After driving the terrorists out of Iraq and enforcing the above plan, we should have helped Assad eliminate the small extremist Sunni group completely. Then we could turn our attention to dismantling Iran’s nuclear weapons.
Plus I think we should have backed Quadaffi, in Libya and allow both him and Sissi in Egypt establish peace in Algeria and Tunisia.
Rather than back the Muslim Brotherhood, we should have backed the Egyptian military from the beginning. Instead we treated our other only Middle East ally (Egypt) with distain before and after they kicked out the Brotherhood terrorists
.
Wait a minute, this is all just a bad dream. Obama says, “we’ve never been safer and the border is secure.”
